Congratulations, however ...[edit]

I congratulate the author of this article. I have checked several of its entries and its accuracy is accuracy appears to be good. I particularly like the map at the this external link.

However, he may have noticed that this map is based on 1:50,000 maps and that it gives an elevation of 5628 metres for Mount Damavand. This is more consistent with GPS readings and SRTM data than the traditional 5670 metres given in the NASA link. Unless NASA can show that they measured Damavand from accurate observations, I would take the view that 5670 is based on nothing more than an old estimate of 18,600 feet, and that we should regard the 1:50,000 source as more accurate.
