[edit] Notes
I took the liberty to reorganize the discussions. If you don't like it please feel free to revert it back to the previous form. I in no way intend to cause any difficulties over this action. Les Hayden (talk) 19:27, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Organization
Gosh, quite a lot of red links, despite my best efforts at finding articles. :(
This is probably not the best way to arrange this, especially considering so many larger insurance companies dabble in different types of insurance. (E.g. MetLife.)
This is just an attempt. Please tear apart as necessary.

Is Expatriate Insurance and Travel Insurance the same thing or at least close enough to combine sections? HornColumbia (talk) 01:05, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Would it be more useful to organize this as a single long table with the list of companies as the rows, the products as columns and then put some indicator about which products the companies market? Les Hayden (talk) 19:27, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Viability
Since the list of insurance companies changes frequently and, if complete, would contain thousands of entries, I suggest Wikipedia's bandwidth might be best served by eliminating this article. What say you? Johnwhunt 02:50, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I agree. Ellsworth 20:08, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I'm not sure on that. I think that the list ought to be modified several ways, but the intent of this article, I believe, is to help consumers differentiate companies that are legitimate and reputable from the "discount card" companies that have come up in the news lately, which collect premiums and don't pay claims. I suggest that we convert to a table-style format. Also, I think we should differentiate some of the companies (do they offer group, individual, small business etc.), status (do they offer multiple plans like metlife, or just auto like aflac...) or (are they mutual companies or not etc.). Just some ideas. I think this list definitely needs some work in order for the article to be beneficial, but I think it's a potentially very beneficial page. I, for one, am trying to get some information on the company I just signed with, and would like some other information beyond what is provided by the corporation and the state dept. of insurance.
