Neil Courntey?[edit]

A Neil Courntey appears in the testimonial section having apparantly been awarded a testimonial in 1956. However, according to wigan.rlfans.com no-one by the name of Neil Courntey has played for Wigan. Although, the similar named Neil Courtney has played for Wigan, this was in the 1980s not the 1950s. Any ideas? DynamoDegsy (talk) 10:25, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Flagicons[edit]

This list is shaping up nicely. I would just advise against the use of flagicons. As this list gets longer I think you'll find it starting to load extremely slowly. You can see this at List of Sydney Roosters players at which I'm in the painstaking proces of gradually getting rid of all the flagicons.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 20:33, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully it should be ok as it is, as I don't see the list growing much longer. (Unlike the example above, I don't intend to add all 1,000+ players that have ever played for Wigan to a single list - it would be far too long, and there's not really much value in adding dozens of non-notable players who have made only a single appearance for the club). That isn't made clear from the lead though. What is the criteria for inclusion in this list? It should probably say so in the opening line and even in the title.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 09:04, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The criteria are mentioned above the table just under the "List of players" heading, but obviously this (and the lead) will need expanding at some point. Just trying to follow the example of other sports so this project can have a few more featured lists hopefully. J Mo 101 (talk) 10:45, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I agree that the complete list would not be worthwhile. There are sources for it,[1][2] and I think it's a shame that articles such as Ray Mordt are not linked to by a single rugby league-related article.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 01:08, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I actually started a list to include every single player, but it's very time consuming, and the list is already quite large. It could work (even if reminds me that Desi Williams played for Wigan!), but maybe seperate lists would be more practical (perhaps List of Wigan Warriors players (1895–1945) and another for 1945–present?). I just think that all the trouble you've gone to making it sortable will be somewhat wasted if it's split like that. It's much nicer to be able to see who has the most appearances/tries/points/field/goals/etc. ever rather than who had the most until 1945 (then going elsewhere to see if anyone got more since then). If it must be split, 1895-1995/1996-present would seem most logical, but this is not done in sources, and I think would pose problems with players whose careers spanned the winter and summer eras. It is time consuming and large, but if we keep it down to just text I think it should be fine. I'm comfortable with it being in the main space even if it is a work in progress (like most other similar lists are).--Gibson Flying V (talk) 00:23, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
