"comments added to prevent addition of incorrect IATA codes" was wrong[edit]

All pages contained "ZZZ is FAA code (not IATA for ..." comments, but these were wrong at many cases. If the FAA code is only 3-letter code and no same IATA code, the comment is right, but the same code points to different airport is actually very common case. For example, IATA code of Bahía Negra Airport is BFA, and FAA code of Boyne Mountain Airport is BFA. - Hhswp (talk) 21:08, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sudden deletion was my runaway, sorry. I thought the better way to prevent mistakes is to add column FAA, and I had a plan to it (and I'm preparing), so I'd deleted. - Hhswp (talk) 22:18, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
To check all codes, and to prepare to add FAA column, I made simple csvdata. I also suspect people are confused FAA code as IATA code, and these listing pages may contain this kind of mistakes. (At least, List_of_airports_by_IATA_code and List_of_airports_by_ICAO_code had many wrong code that I found.) - Hhswp (talk) 19:30, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Improve or remove Time/DST columns of List of airports by IATA?[edit]

First, inconsistencies between pages are the problem. Because the "A-N" pages have these, the "M-Z" pages should also have these.

Secondly, we will not be able to adjust the clock with the only month of the DST. For example, in New York on 2016, DST began on March 13, it will end on November 6.

Third, it is too heavy to maintain the DST columns. For example, Egyptian government took the decision to cancel the DST on 2014. I suspect that we can't update continuously the DST columns, without infra for automatic maintainance.

Fourth, it is clear that "List of airports by IATA" have no responsibility to show the information for "adjusting clock".

My proposals have three options.

  1. Remove time/DST columns.
  2. Build custom module to show current DST information (for example, with collaborating some kind of external service).
  3. Show only timezone names, like "Africa/Casablanca".

Third option's decision is the same as "airports.dat" of "openflights", and once we know timezone name, then we can extract UTC offset and DST with using IANA timezone database.

code ABC for Albacete Airport[edit]

Clean up[edit]

This page need to be cleaned up. Most of the links are either to missing pages, or to disambig pages. The ICAO page is better. -- Jbattersby 22:08, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the links to all the IATA codes and ICAO codes. I had previously done this on 6-Feb-2006, but someone else added them again on 15-Mar-2006. This restores the page to the same format as all the other IATA airport pages. While having the codes linked does makes it easier to add the airports to disambiguation pages or redirect pages, once that is done the links really serve no other purpose. The only remaining "red" links are for airports or cities that don't have pages (yet). I think that is cleaned up enough to warrant removing the CLEANUP template, which I have also done. Country flag templates[edit]

In regards to cleaning up the page, any opinions on the use of the country flag templates that display a country's flag before its name? I see these have been added to some of the entries on the list. I think the page would be look better if all the entries used the same format (either with flag or without), but I haven't made any changes yet because I'm still not sure if the flags add any value to the list. Personally, I think it looks a bit of a mess with the flags all over the place. If it was possible to have all the flags aligned I think that would look good - but I see that the templates include the flag and country name. -- Jbattersby 18:52, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]


ADC/KADC Confusion[edit]

The IATA page lists ADC and KADC as the IATA and ICAO respective codes standing for Andakombe, Papua New Guniea, while the ICAO lists them as Wadena Municipal Airport in Wadena, Minnesota. Is this just a matter of trying to add logic into it (KADC=ADC, therefore ADC=KADC)? Other sites I've looked at (that weren't based on Wikipedia) state that KADC is only for Wadena, which, if there are no exceptions in the ICAO's formula, fits in the ICAO pattern (K stands for Mainland US airports). But I have no proof from actual IATA or ICAO published lists, so I'm not the one to correct it. Paploo 17:54, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]


IATA/FAA Codes[edit]

I found that you had listed Atka Airport as AKA. This is the FAA code, while the IATA code for the airport is AKB. I would suggest making notes where there is a discrepancy between the two codes. Paploo 18:21, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]


ABC = Albacete, Spain?[edit]

AFAIK ABC *is* the IATA code for LEAB (Albacete, Spain). At least Amadeus decodes ABC as Albacete, but I don't have a reference. Why is it listed as incorrect in the article (see comments when you edit Ab section) --Estradin (talk) 15:30, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
