Requested movie articles[edit]

This project is now coordinated at Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/List of films without article.

-Some people would like to have entries on the following movies (A-Z).
- If you create a new film article, split a mixed film/novel (film/play, etc), or find a film article previously not classified as such, please add it to the various appropriate lists (by year, letter, genre, country, etc). In case you have no time updating all lists, please make your entry in the list by letter, including the year of the film's release and after it an asterisc, so that other members can further classify it.

Soundtracks[edit]

Does anybody know if there is a list of movie soundtracks?

If not, is it worth considering? Ianblair23 01:20, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bias of selection[edit]

(Moved from talk: Individual Films) This page is useful right now, but it will become more and more useless as more films are added. I suppose when there are lots of film, we can separate the pages alphabetically (like Yahoo/dmoz). One fun thing is the various revisions will show the popularity of films to the wiki audience...right now the listing shows a certain particular bias towards a few genres... --The Cunctator

I don't see the bias. Perhaps you can explain? --KQ

Ummm...they're pretty much all SF, action, horror, or otherwise "guy" movies, plus a few seminal works like Citizen Kane and Wild Strawberries. It's a very nerd-male list. --The Cunctator

Subpages[edit]

What about doing subpages right now? --Yooden

For what? To move all the film entries on the page to subpages under Individual Films? No. --Pinkunicorn

No, one subpage per letter. --Yooden

Ah, then I follow you. Sure, go ahead. --Pinkunicorn

ooh - a subpage for Chick Movies. that's what we need. Crossing Delancy should lead the list. I vote to leave 'em here and let their enthusiasts add 'em as necessary. If (gasp) the current author-group for wikipedia overlaps with the current movie list, that's fine. --MichaelTinkler

Hey, a subpage for chick flicks would be entirely appropriate. Anyway, I have divided the alphabetical list into four pages for now, expecting further division in the future. I did it because the whole list was just too large and took too long to load. The four subpages are now reasonable in size, but as they continue to grow, they'll need further future subdivision. I tried to divide the list more or less equally. jaknouse 01:46 Apr 2, 2003 (UTC)

Numbers[edit]

I'm not sure about the 'numbers' list. I think that movies like Twelve Monkeys should go in the alphabetical list and that there should be another subpage for ones that really do start with numbers, like 2001 A Space Odyssey --Basswulf 09:08 Apr 22, 2003 (UTC)

Well, I thought of only doing numbers, but if someone knows of a film that starts with a number as a word, like Seven and sees the numbers page, they'd look there, then think it's not in the database. I felt it was simpler to not make the distinction between actual numbers and the numbers as words. Paul --Rfc1394 18:20, 21 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Is there a rule that each movie must appear only once in the entire list? Because otherwise you could list each relevant movie on the numbers list and under the appropriate letter - then you wouldn't have to worry about which one it's supposed to go under, or which one people are more likely to look for it under. —Paul A 05:47, 22 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Films by language?[edit]

Is there a list of films by language? Morwen 23:57, Dec 26, 2003 (UTC)

I've just removed

from the list of "films by language". It links to the list of American films. Equating English language films and American films is just nonsense. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a list of English language films. Thehalfone (talk) 22:13, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Films by location[edit]

List of movies set in Los Angeles, List of movies set in New York City and List of movies set in Hong Kong should be added, but I'm not sure how to lay it out. Edward 18:30, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Is it OK to turn the subtitles under each hemisphere into simply bold text, so that the page's navigation doesn't become too long? Hoverfish 15:59, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lists that should be created[edit]

I removed all of the red link lists on the page and put them here to be created. Once created, I will readd them to the page. Anyone can do these, just please attempt to add a number of films to the list before readding it to its appropriate section. Add more lists as needed to this section. --Nehrams2020 22:47, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Layman's Blues[edit]

With respect to all efforts for the list-by-year project: From the point of view of a ProjectFilm member trying to help by adding film articles to the list: 1. As it is, in the years after the separate tabulations (or listing) of various film groups started being used, one must use a "Find" search from one's browser to find if a title is there (even worse if it's a redirecting title). 2. When films are in a list sorted by date, it is visually very hard to find a film known by name only. 3. For the list to become (rather sooner than later) really inclusive and therefore usefull (as a general reference source from Google, for exapmle), the casual user's convenience has to be considered, plus the casual effort of a ProjectFilm(-List) member trying to contribute (time and (dis-)encouragment factors).   Suggestions: 1. Keep all particular tabulations in a usefull priority (Acad. Awards etc) after a complete alphabetical list of each year's movies (including all films presently in the page). Members can enter easily an unlisted entry and one can easily find a film by title. 2. Create a simple list of abbreviations for each extra tabulation (or listing) and make sure the abbreviation is added as a note after each title in the alphabetical list, so one can have easy access to extra information available for a film. For convenience, the abbreviation can be linked to the appropriate section(#) of the page containing the table or listing.
I hope these notes may be useful to this project's team. If any decision in this direction is taken, I am willing to contribute work in it. To be more specific, at least until a decision on the later years, with many separate tabulations, I am willing to go from the 1930's on and change the existing lists "Other films released" into "Films released in 19##" and add to this list all the "Top grossing films". Animations can remain separate, if this remains consistent till the present listings. I could work with a speed of 1-2 decades per day, if not more. All I need is a go ahead. Hoverfish 10:53, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One more note: If each year's page includes one all-inclusive list with abbr. as noticed above, the creation of a complete film database would be possible. When such a database is created, it will only be necessary for a film to be added once and all other listings can be automatically updated. If I am talking about things already discussed elsewhere, I would like to know and maybe take part in a relevant discussion. Hoverfish 19:19, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have to admit my last comment was a bit imaginative. Hoverfish 17:52, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List by year: work underway[edit]

I have also posted about this in the Film Project talk. Please, take a look here. In the last days, I have made for each year from 1930 to 1970 one comprehensive alphabetic list containing all films of the year mentioned, either in the year's top grossing or the next year's tops, in awards, events and all. I have been extra careful to check each film's release year. I have fixed lots of links to point to the film articles and corrected some wrong year entries, replaced Movie with Film where needed and generally gave a consistent outlook. I plan to work like this all through the 1980s. I observe in the 1990s start lists for films released in by month. Where tables start in 2000s, things are very different. If one tries to find out if a film is missing from a year, or to locate a film, it is very hard, if there doesn't exist a full alphabetic list in each year. This I propose until the end of the 1990s. I have to admit that after this, the amount of information becomes too massive for me to cope in this way. So I wish to get some feedback from the members working in dividing films in months in the 1990s, so that the progress of my work doesn't come in conflict with their progress. I will rather move first backwards in the 1920s, making things consistent and wait for some constructive talk for later years. Hoverfish 20:23, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like you have put a lot of work into helping these films sorted by year. It will be very difficult to do the 1990s-2000s due to the sheer number of released films. I think you have a good idea going; I have experienced similar frustrations in atttempting to find films in the year that they were released. I would recommend leaving messages on the talk pages of the people who contribute the most to these decades, as they might be able to give you a better response than to what you are getting here. Unfortunately, I can't help you too much with this, since I am still working on adding films by year to List of films by letter. But with your work, it will make my task much easier. I am hoping to continue to add massive amounts of films so that the lists of films by letter are the most comprehensive lists on films on Wikipedia. I have already worked on this at a steady rate for three months, and will continue to do so. But again, I do recommend that you seek assistance from the people who tend to edit the films by year. Nehrams2020 21:17, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your suggestion, I will try to contact such members. It is very good that you are working for a comprehensive list by letter. The list by year is very useful for many, but the list by letter (provided every entry states its year) is the one most useful for archieving. This is why I suggest here below that it should be the first one to be updated. Maybe a person making a new entry only there, should add an asterisc to it, to make it easy for us to spot it and help enter it in all the other list categories. Hoverfish 06:52, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More Comprehensive List of Films[edit]

Should all (or most) of the films from the List of films be included on this page? I could go through and add the ones that are notable and that could fit in an appropriate section. If there are enough in a particular topic, I can also create new headings? It will make the page longer, but will provide for a better reference in finding films by topic. When new films are created, Wikipedians are recommended to add their newly created article to the appropriate lists on List of films, so it would be better to have more topics so that they can include them in all of the lists the film would fit into. Is anybody for/against this? I will wait for a few responses, and start unless significantly opposed. Nehrams2020 21:56, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can you specify what the new headings might be? I am not sure I understand exactly. Do you want to create sub groups in the list that appears here above (in the list of films with no entry yet)? Also I think here above, in the list's instructions, it should become clear in which single list (I would suggest "by letter") a person having no time to add the film to all categories, should make his entry. Hoverfish 06:39, 14 October 2006 (UTC) Again, if your suggestion is for the above list, I think this list should include only requested articles. We could make a subpage to the main article (List of films) for a comprehensive list of films without articles. This would indeed become quite large, most probably too large for a talk page. Hoverfish 07:42, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know for sure the subheadings yet. I just know that there are a lot of lists of films in that category that have not been included on this page. I know there is an actual formal page for requesting films somewhere, I think it branches off of the Requested Articles page. But I think it would be good if we had our own page for requested films. Of course, before it should be created, we should search for it and ensure that it does not exist. Maybe we could even create a WikiProject that branches off of WikiProject films and only focuses on working on lists of films. We could get more participants to help work on these pages. I wouldn't know where to begin in starting a new project (if that's even allowed or possible), and we need a lot more input before we would begin.Nehrams2020 18:16, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I hope more members contribute in this discussion, but I would say let's keep it here and post messages in WikiProject Films. Hoverfish 20:25, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re-ordering the lists and adding List of films: without article[edit]

I propose that the list by letter comes up top, or just under the list by year. We should also create a page List of films: without article, which should be one alphabetic list with some markings after each entry as to the categories this film belongs. Alternatively we could make groups, but should always keep on top an alphabetical list for the unsorted entries. Hoverfish 15:25, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, by letter and by year need to be right at the beginning of the article.Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 17:24, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Layout additions/changes made[edit]

I've added some new sections and sub-sections within the page in an attempt to get as many film lists as possible out of the uncategorized section. I'm not entirely sure that my new sections and subsections work right (or that everything has been moved into just the right place), so I'd like others to look at my work and fix it if neccessary. I created the subsection By creator or distributor in By source, I also created By rating, Banned or condemned film lists, the section By fantastical theme and its subsections, By type of character (which is meant to classify film lists that focus on particular types of characters, from pirates to hobos), By type of scene and Lists_of_films#By_subject_matter. Also, many of the new lists I've added were orphaned, or nearly so, and are therefore underpopulated. In particular, I want to draw your help and attention to the lack of romantic film lists (what I was able to find I put in By genre, but these are woefully small), especially the lack of a romantic comedy film list, and to List of children's films, which is underpopulated and currently undergoing a deletion debate, and to the fact that some of the nearly-orphaned film lists have mispellings or other problems with their titles and may need to be renamed.Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 17:24, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Keep up the good work Mermaid from the Baltic Sea and make sure you check in Categories. I'm sure I've seen somewhere some comedy categories, but unless we give this article a push to hit top, there will always be this endless looking around, mostly finding incomplete lists here and there. After a while I will also try to help in refinements here. Hoverfish 18:40, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Films in year navigation is a big mess[edit]

Some of the years send to years in film and some to categories. What is with this navigation that does ANYTHING usefull then?? Hoverfish 18:12, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lists by Production Company[edit]

Kinds suprised not to see List of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer films, as well as the lists contained within 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures. I would add these three, but I figure there's got to be similiar ones I haven't found yet. If you know of any, list them here, and eventually I may get to creating a section for them. JPG-GR 03:38, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What you have fits here: Lists of films#By creator or distributor. I added the above 3. I think "creator should become "production company", and all the irrelevant items moved to a better listing (Woody Allen films!! the list contains even films he just played in!!). I will place a cleanup notice and will be back to see what I can do later today. Hoverfish Talk 07:20, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lists gone.[edit]

I was distressed to find that two of my favourite pages - List of films about possessed or sentient inanimate objects and List of films by gory death scene have been deleted from Wikipedia. Bizarrely perhaps the old lists are both being used by Ebay to help catalogue films (http://listing-index.ebay.com/movies/index_45.html), which just shows how useful the pages were and what a shame it is that they are now gone. Jooler 19:57, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also List of films featuring independent body parts has gone too. Shame on those who voted to delete these. Jooler 08:31, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Prod tag[edit]

This article was prod tagged. I've removed it, as this article serves a navigational purpose within Wikipedia. It is part of the Category:Lists of lists grouping, serving to contextually organize related list-articles.

There is further discussion on navigational "lists of lists" at Wikipedia talk:Move navigational lists to portal namespace and earlier at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive 14#Index lists. Possible decisions include tagging these as disambig, moving them to portalspace, or leaving them as they are. I'd welcome responses there and here. Thanks. -- Quiddity (talk) 18:55, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of film listsLists of films – The standard naming for a list of lists seems to be "Lists of x" so in this case would be "Lists of films". See Category:Lists of lists for precedent. If the concern is that this should contain all lists relating to any aspect of the medium of film, which it does not seem to be, wouldn't that make more sense for an Outline of film or Index of film-related articles? — Rhododendrites talk |  14:30, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

List of No music films[edit]

Wikipedia don't have it. some no bgm films are so famous. they have strong plot, great act like "Rope", "The Blair Witch Project". To create list is easy. on the internet, we can find Best of no music films list easily. but it's a little bit difficult to check "No music or not". what do you think about it? 36.11.225.181 (talk) 04:55, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
