Basic guidelines for editing
This list took a good deal of effort by many people to reach its current form. If you would like to make changes to this article, please follow the guidelines below. Thanks for your help.

1) Verify the hi information is correct. If a bridge is added to the end of the list because it has a short main span you must be resonably certain that there are no missing bridges between the previous last entry and the new entry. This typically means that you have a source that lists and ranks all suspension bridges in the world. If the length of the bridge's main span puts it in the middle of the list, this is not a concern.

2) Any bridge added to the main section MUST be completed and opened for vehicular or train traffic. Bridges that are proposed or under construction can be listed in the end section. Feel free to start a new section of bridges that have been destroyed or otherwise no longer in use.

3) The locations of bridges should only be wikilinked the first time they appear on this list. This shows that the bridge is the largest in the linked location.

4) Pictures should be tagged according to Wikipedia's image use policy. If there is no such picture available, you can create a link to an external picture.

5) The rankings are also citations. Any bridge added must have a citation. The best citation is the bridge's own homepage. If there is no such site in English, the next best citation would be a source listed in the reference section. If you add a new citation source other than a bridge's homepage, please add it to the reference section

6) Please discuss page moves in advance.

[edit] Suspension Bridge Deck Types

Hi there,
I am newly of interest to wikipedia and this topic in particular.
The list of long span suspension bridges is interesting as I was wanting to generate a list of the longest suspension bridges, but also with the type of deck on which the traffic runs. I am not so interested in whether there is a truss, girder or box section as the main sections (although that would be nice) - I'm specifically more interested in what the traffic runs directly on.
From what I can tell, generally there are the following deck types:
1. Orthotropic decks (typically a steel plate with stiffeners welded to the underside)
2. Grid decks (typically steel grating that is open or filled with concrete, or steel T shapes that are upside-down and filled with concrete)
3. Concrete decks (typically on steel framing)

So the question is as follows:
A) Is the information on deck type readily available for the 116 longest suspension bridges (but I just don't know where to look); OR
B) Better yet, is it able to somehow be added to each bridge's summary page as DECK TYPE: ORTHO or CONCRETE or GRID?
C) Add to that the cherry-on-top idea of CROSS SECTION TYPE: TRUSS or GIRDER or BOX

Kind Regards,
msteu

[edit] Huangpu Bridge

Hello, I am quite confused about the information in the article regarding this bridge. It is under the first 15 (rank 14) and it is a cable-stayed bridge, not a suspension bridge (see [1]), actually also the article about the bridge mentions it and shows its picture (cable-stayed bridge). According to this the affirmation in the introduction that the bridges with the 15 longest spans are suspension bridges would be wrong and this bridge should not be included in the list, regards, Poco a poco...¡adelante! 23:30, 30 December 2009 (UTC) hi —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.177.172.155 (talk) 23:30, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Liberty Bridge

Why Liberty Bridge, Novi Sad is not on the list? It has Total length of 1,312 m, Width 27.60 m, Longest span 351 m. --Göran S (talk) 11:43, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

I Agree to enter it. --Tadijaspeaks 19:41, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

It is a Cable-stayed bridge and not a Suspension bridge. -- SamuelWantman 03:00, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Updates on french list

Hello, the french version of this list has been updated with many photos changed, geolocalisation added and some bridges added. Unfortunately, there are some Chinese bridges with no photo, and there are no many photos of these bridges on Panoramio or Flickr. If someone is interested, I have a xls file of this list (very useful for work on such list).
