Keokradong[edit]

Wikiquette prevents me from using expletives so I will refrain from doing so but frankly when I come across some of the nonsense I find on some Wikipedia sites it's enough to make a saint swear. Viewfinder 23:57, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You need to elaborate while making any point. If there is something wrong, specifying it in clear terms makes it easier for everyone. Thanks. --Ragib 06:11, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, I should have done this. I was referring to the statement in a Wikipedia article that Keokradong is 1230m high and the highest point in Bangladesh. SRTM data shows that Keokradong is less that 900m high and that there are higher elevations on Bangladesh's eastern border. Viewfinder 00:14, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification of the comment. You are right, as well, regarding the height of Keokradon. This Banglapedia states that Tajingdong, which is the highest peak of Bangladesh, officially called as Bijoy (1,280m). --Ragib 08:19, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do not think the above source is correct. According to a recent GPS reading taken there, which agrees closely with SRTM data, Tajingdong is at 21°56.996N, 92°30.870E and is 985m high, not 1280m. I can find nowhere in Bangladesh that is higher than the high point of the Mowdok range at N 21°47'12" E 92°36'36", where Russian 1:200,000 mapping gives a spot height of 1052m which also agrees closely with SRTM. Other Bangladeshi mountains and peaks[edit]

The following is a list of mountain ranges in Bangladesh and the tallest peaks of each range that I could dig up, not sourced and not detailed:

  • Phoromain range (Phoromain, 463m)
  • Dolajeri range (Langtrai, 429m)
  • Bhuachhari (Changpai, 611m)*
  • Barkal range (Thangnang, 735m)
  • Muranja range (Basitaung, 664m)
  • Wayla range (most of this range is in Myanmar)
  • Chimbook range (Tindu, 898m)
  • Batimain range (Batitaung, 526m)
  • Politai range (Keokradang, 884m; Ramiu Taung 921m)
  • Saichal-Mowdok range (Bilaisari, 669m; Saka Haphong/Mowdok Mual 1063.1424m)
  • Saichal range (Waibung 808m; Dumlong, 1010.1072m; Mowdok Tlang, 905m)

Can someone help gathering some more stuff on these? May be someone from Wikipedia:WikiProject Mountains? Cheers. Aditya Kabir 04:42, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sippi Arshuang[edit]

Moved in from the article page

There is another peack recentlly measured by the same organization (Nature Adventure CLub, Dhaka) who measured the height of Saka Haphong (height peak of Bangladesh, 3488 feet) at 22nd February. the loaction of the the peak is 22°11`5.54 north and 92°29'01.03 east. The height recorded is 3028 feet.

This looks like original research, though I know this is fact. Until this can be sourced... Aditya(talkcontribs) 04:58, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the data for Sippi with external reference where GPS trace and topo maps are given, in fact I myself measured the peak. Please update the data also with nature adventure clubs data if possible. s21rc —Preceding unsigned comment added by S21rc (talkcontribs) 05:47, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious[edit]

Saka Haphong and Rang Tlang looks like unsubstantiated claims of adventurers, not supported by any credible source. A tabloid-like claim in a layman newspaper may not be enough to support the claim, especially when that too is written in a very fuzzy way. Aditya(talkcontribs) 11:45, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have added data for Saka Haphong with verifieble external links. I hope people will share data of Reng Tlang as well. Thanks. s21rc — Preceding unsigned comment added by S21rc (talkcontribs) 04:06, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Strange that the GPS data and link for GPS GPX trace of this peak has been removed by user: 117.18.231.23 without any discussion. I have undone the edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by S21rc (talkcontribs) 17:24, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

      • Second time a valid verifiable reference link with important data has been removed by unregistered user. The reference was made to a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 based project site (www.banglatrek.org)developed by local volunteer trekkers with real GPS trace for the whole trail and peak. The unknown user did not left a reason for removing important data as comment. As this is the highest peak of the country and people should be aware of all relevant data about it, I am going to submit this to "Dispute resolution" system, As a start I seek assistance from other editor. For the other peaks in this page similar data reference has been provided from the same website, it is very much strange that only this reference has been removed intentionally twice. Dumlong[edit]

The mountain Dumlong seems to be inside Indian territory (from Google Earth). So we shouldn't include it in Bangladesh mountains. Though the elevation info is correct. Kaushik Ahmed Reza (talk 09:15, 02 March 2011 (GMT)

The boarder in google earth might not be correct. The boarder lines crossed over each peak in this range and also Mowdok range. As per the USGS topo map the boarder is on the top of the Renagtlang peak, similar to Mowdok Taung/Saka Hafong. I am checking the Russian topo, will update soon. s21rc — Preceding unsigned comment added by S21rc (talkcontribs) 10:46, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
