Should this List be a Category? Richard Pinch (talk) 20:20, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doubtful Inclusions[edit]

Not at all sure that the Royal Fleet Auxiliary has a royal charter. Davidships (talk) 03:09, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know; but this site asserts an RC of 1911, with some confidence, but no reference! - http://iancoombe.tripod.com/id8.html Heenan73 (talk) 12:36, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The definitive list is published by the Privy Council Office (currently the second reference in the article). The Royal Fleet Auxiliary is not on the definitive list, although it may have had a Royal Charter in the past. (I have removed it from the Wikipedia list.) More generally, what this article needs is for somebody to compare the Wikipedia list with the list published by the Privy Council Office. I would do this except that I don't care. Later. I still don't care. However, I decided I needed some practice writing Excel Macros. My analysis suggests that 117 entries in the article are correct, and 188 are wrong. (That's pretty good for Wikipedia.) HairyWombat 07:52, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Open University[edit]

The Open University is listed twice; under 'T' and 'O'. Is that intentional? Heenan73 (talk) 12:20, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

 Fixed. HairyWombat 17:29, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Institution of Engineering and Technology[edit]

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is not on the definitive list published by the Privy Council Office. However, in an e-mail exchange they admitted that this was an oversight. I will therefore add the IET to the article. As a <ref> I will use the consolidated version of the IET's Charter and Orders published on the IET website. Added note on what the dates represent[edit]

I assume that the date after the organisation is meant to be the date the Royal Charter was granted for that organisation? From WP:BOLD I have added explanatory text to make that clearer on the page itself. An anonymous user recently changed the date for the London Mathematical Society to the date of the London Mathematical Society's founding rather than the date it got the charter (100 years difference), which suggests confusion.
