Sourcing clarification[edit]

I completed about 2/3 of the Genesis sourcing from the Brian Washburn source.[1] Then I found a better source by Paul Conway.[2] Despite the second source being in wiki format, Conway appears to be a reliable source.[3][4] Furthermore, because I'd already manually checked most of the citations for Genesis, I can have very strong confidence that Conway's material is correct, because his Genesis references matched perfectly.

At any rate, much of the page's material will be based on Conway's information, apart from the Genesis referencing I'd previously completed, so I would like the first external link to source his page to credit him. --7157.118.25a (talk) 12:04, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • The above editor is a now-blocked sock. This is what they did here--I am loath to just roll it back and leave it in y'all's capable hands. Drmies (talk) 04:50, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I would rather thank 7157. I had filled up a similar list at List of Hebrew Bible manuscripts, planning to duplicate it here, but found a much fuller effort was done by the editor (and was reverted). Conway himself doen't look like a true RS. He is a minister with very little academic affiliations and no publications, who set up half a site. But his index seems to be based on Martinez and Tigchelaar, The Dead Sea Scrolls Study Edition (Brill 1997), which very clearly structured (fragment by fragment!). Washburn is a little newer, of the same year Emmanuel Tov published an index on the DJD series (2002), and has slight variations where I checked. I presume they can be checked against the still newer Dead Sea Discoveries journal, and The Dead Sea Scrolls Encyclopedia. In the very least, the table in the form cave-manuscript-book, which 7157 filled for caves 4-11, should remain. trespassers william (talk) 00:34, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Qumran Cave 11[edit]

The list of manuscripts from Qumran Cave 11 is linked to the Qumran Cave 11 section. JohnThorne (talk) 20:04, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Language Error[edit]

I'm not good at editing Wikipedia, I'm just a Qumran scholar who noticed an error. 4Q156 (4Q Targum Leviticus) is listed as "Hebrew," but it's written in Aramaic. Would someone please fix this? Or if there's an argument for listing it as Hebrew, I'd love to hear it. Thank you! ~Ryan

Additional information in the description column, "type".[edit]

I think would be great to add (but I don't have the credentials/knowledge to carry on with this endevour) the "type" for each item into its description box.

These are the types I propose in order to make their classification as detailed as possible: Hebrew Bible (canonical, apocrypha, para-biblical, pseudo-epigraphon, etc.), Septuagint, Aramaic targum, Aramaic (original work, not translation) Greek targum (translation but not Septuagint), Greek (original work, not translation), Coptic targum, paraphrase (indicate language here) etc.

Dates should be as specific as possible but sharing some standard to be consistent along the list.
