Suggest to split and rename[edit]

I suggest the following changes to this list and List of cities and towns in Namibia:

  1. Split the villages from the settlements. Villages in Namibia are self-governed while settlements are governed by the respective Regional Council.
  2. Rename List of cities and towns in Namibia to List of local authorities in Namibia. The self-governed places (cities, towns and villages) are all have a lot in common. Local elections are being held for the composition of their councils and they have a mayor. In contrast, the differences between cities / towns and villages are rather marginal, as already explained in the article.
  3. Add the villages (but not the settlements) to List of local authorities in Namibia.
  4. Rename List of villages and settlements in Namibia to List of settlements in Namibia.
  5. Distinguish (in sections) on this list the proclaimed settlements from the unproclaimed settlements.

Classic (developed-world) differences between towns and villages do not apply in Namibia, for instance market rights (not governed), or the presence of a town hall (villages and towns both have a council building in Namibia). Size also doesn't really matter, e.g. Epukiro (a settlement) should approach 10,000 inhabitants by now while Bukalo (a village) has 800, and Henties Bay (a city) has about 5,000. --Pgallert (talk) 08:17, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
