Birthdate Wrong[edit]

Collins graduated from Klein High School in 1994, as the article attests, however the article says she was born in June 1979, making her just barely 15 when she graduated from high school, which she was not. She did graduate a year early from high school, but not 3 years early. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.240.244.177 (talk) 01:55, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Klein High School alumni page she graduated in 1995, a year earlier than she should have been if the article is correct. That would make her the same age as Matthew Bomer, who graduated in 1996 and was born in 1977. --70.140.191.179 (talk) 01:07, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnicity?[edit]

She played a First Nations character in the Wolverine movie, and as might be expected, there's already some contention about/interest in her actual ethnic background. Her looks in the film are convincing, and some people on the IMDb message boards have said she mentioned having Native American ancestry on a recent morning talk show. If anyone has information on this, with a good source, it should be added.173.26.226.151 (talk) 22:36, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth[edit]

There are two problems with the currently displayed two dates for her birth.

  • Firstly, the familytreelegends.com source for the 1977 date appears to be either down or gone. It may reappear. I've marked it dead for now.
  • Secondly, because this is site is down I am unable to see what it contains, but unless it unequivocally demonstrates the birth date of Lynn Collins, the woman who is the subject of this article, then all it verifies that a Lynn Collins was born on this date. Basically it has a suggestion of original synthesis about it. There are multiple reliable sources that say her birth date is in 1979, and while she wouldn't be the first actress to lie about her age, it is not Wikipedia's job to conduct the research to prove it so.

We also do not need a discussion about the reliability of the sources within the lead sentence. If the fact her age is uncertain is notable (which has not been demonstrated) it can be discussed at a later point. But the lead sentence doesn't need this distracting divergence. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 15:06, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you on the broad outlines — we're both trying to cite as reliably as possible. It does happen that the website citing state records site doesn't list "Collins, Lynn" but, specifically, "Collins, Viola Lynn." I'd imagine we'd both agree that a site using official state records is a higher-quality source than AskMen.com.
Since birth dates a standard part of any biography, whether here or in a Robert Caro book, they're intrinsically notable. If there's a discrepancy among reliable sources, we need to make that clear, whatever the wording that we might chose working together.
The site, like any site, may be down due to some temporary server problem. It's always been up when I've tried to access it before. I'm glad we're giving it a chance to come back up.--Tenebrae (talk) 16:29, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Site's back up. It was only down for an hour or two. Here's what it says:
Texas Births, 1926-1995

Just to be safe, I entered "Viola" "Lynn" and "Collins" without a birth year, and no other Viola Lynn Collins came up:
COLLINS, ROY FONTANE (mother VIOLA ROSALEE)
COLLINS, HARRIET KAY (mother VIOLA KATHRINE)
COLLINS, CHARLES TURNER (mother VIOLA RUTH)
COLLINS JR, WILLIAM HANSEL (mother VIOLA RUTH)
COLLINS, JUNE VIOLA (female born 1954-09-28)
COLLINS, VIOLA LYNN (data above)

Most recent news sources say that she is 34 - this, this, this, and this. AskMen is not a reliable source - it's just a website someone made. Do we really need to go around repeating an old mistake about her age? All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 18:49, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Orange County Register and the UK paper The Independent are certainly RS cites. I guess Yahoo! Movies is, too; I'm not familiar with how journalistic its standards are or if its contributors are professionals. The Kansas City Star link took me to a dead page. But, yes, certainly, two RS newspaper cites that agree with the birth-certificate record would seem to indicate that AskMen.com has it wrong and may be a fringe source. Speaking just for myself, I say go for it. --Tenebrae (talk) 19:12, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth (again)[edit]

Having the lead and infobox give her date of birth as May 16, 1977, while the Youth and education section says "reported variously in May or June 1977" is simply incompetent writing. --Khajidha (talk) 15:41, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
