The opening para ends with "M. S. Subbulakshmi as the leading exponent of classical and semi-classical songs in the Karnataka tradition of South India.". Well, "Karnataka" is the name of a state in South India, while the tradition is called "Carnatic". So, the correct version should read as: "M. S. Subbulakshmi as the leading exponent of classical and semi-classical songs in the Carnatic tradition of South India."
Obviously, the state "Karnataka" cannot have anything to do with MS who was born in the state of TamilNadu, except that the "Carnatic" style of singing is predominant in all 4 states of South India.

- I agree that the word "karnataka' in South Indian Music that existed since 14th century is not directly related to state name 'Karanataka' that came into use in 1970s. It does not mean to say that the original name 'Karnataka Music' as stated in the citation should change. 'Karnataka' was the word used by the award commitee. Therefore it has to stay.Naayar (talk) 06:00, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
