The result of the move request was: Not moved. Insufficient support for move. I do think adding a hat note link to the Main Page is warranted. Born2cycle (talk) 06:00, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

Main (disambiguation)main — I suggest making the page entitled “main” a disambiguation page. Bwrs (talk) 02:12, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support simply because the river Main was not one of the first 3 mains I thought of. 64.105.65.28 (talk) 03:52, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. There are several rivers called Main listed on the dab page. Would a more specific disambiguator not be more appropriate? PC78 (talk) 17:18, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Reading down the disambiguation page, there are no other contenders for primary meaning. Andrewa (talk) 20:52, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. This is easily the primary meaning; the Main is a major and very well-known European waterway. The only meaning that could trump it is the adjective "main", but that is a Wiktionary word, not a suitable Wikipedia article. --Bermicourt (talk) 08:22, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The river main is unlikely to be a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for Non-Europeans - and I find it hard to believe it is "much more likely than any other, and more likely than all the others combined", even for Europeans. If there is no consensus that the river is the primary topic, then we should follow the guideline and disambiguate articles by topic. Anecdotally, I came here because I was looking for the main page. Apart from Main Page, I would think of main function and maybe water main or gas main. The river main never crossed my mind.
And I agree with PC78 - if there are multiple rivers main to be disambiguated, they should get their own disambig page. twilsonb (talk) 10:02, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Tending to oppose - the river seems a reasonable primary topic, given that none of the other significant meanings of "main" would be expected to have encyclopedia articles.--Kotniski (talk) 12:03, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
