Have expanded this article considerably, but after doing this, have noticed there is also a page for Malaga (Pablo Ruiz Picasso) Airport . Should have checked, really, as some information is duplicated. Not sure how to organise a merge? 194.165.175.32 16:38, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've simply made the other article a redirect to this one. Thanks/wangi 16:53, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 1[edit]

Málaga-Costa del Sol AirportMálaga Airport – Disputed move - previous name was Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, and Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport is reported to be the official name. Apteva (talk) 02:34, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
  • Since I had done the move already, I was apparently in favor of it. Other names might also be possible, but the hyphenated "Málaga-Costa" compound makes no sense. I figured that changing it to an en dash would get push back by Acteva or Born2cycle, but here he's pushing back on one that I thought would avoid all controversy. Or maybe he's not pushing back; hard to see what's the point of this RM after the fact. Dicklyon (talk) 02:52, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Explanation. The point is that controversial moves need to be discussed first, not necessarily through RM, but certainly on the talk page. RM is a formal procedure that works pretty well, but is not a requirement. What is a requirement is discussing potentially controversial edits first. I am not reverting the move because if the outcome of the RM is to move the page it is pointless to have 3 page moves instead of one, and if the outcome is to not move, it can be reverted then. There is no urgency to move it either way right now. While I am happy to offer suggestions on how to proceed, I am not particularly interested in offering advice on which name is best. Apteva (talk) 02:17, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe the move to the airport's common name is controversial. Bashevis6920 had already agreed: "If you prefer to keep that name "Malaga Airport", ok, but the official name is Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport" before you opened this RM in which did not even see a reason yourself to object. So far, no objections that I can see, so no controversy, unless you choose to make it one. Dicklyon (talk) 02:21, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Note I am not requesting or endorsing the move. It was made without discussion and disputed. Apteva (talk) 02:37, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It was not so much "disputed" as "discussed", here. As for the claimed official name, so what? Do we name articles based on official names? Or common names? Dicklyon (talk) 02:52, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Another one I moved is Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte Airport, which previously included a spaced en dash inherited from a move made years ago from a spaced hyphen, by DASHBot. Neither dash nor hyphen was in any way defensible that I could see in looking at sources. Dicklyon (talk) 06:47, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The official name has advertising purposes in addition to geographical. Although many people know Málaga and the Costa del Sol, some not.
I think Wikipedia should reflect the official name of the Airport.--Bashevis6920 (talk) 12:39, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
WP:COMMONNAME says that's not our approach. If you look at books, that name is nowhere to be found, while Pablo Ruiiz Picasso Airport and Malaga Airport appear in many books. If you look on travel-booking sites, AGP is just Malaga. Dicklyon (talk) 17:41, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Comment. That section only applies in cases like Bill Clinton where for example there are hundreds of thousands of references that use the common name instead of the official name. In cases where there are only a few references using something else, it makes more sense to use the official name. Apteva (talk) 00:32, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I find hundreds of sources calling it Malaga Airport, and no evidence for the claimed official name. What have you got on that? Dicklyon (talk) 01:18, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"You"? The article has 43 references and 5 external links that could be checked. I believe that another editor thought they knew what the official name was, but definitely not "me". Normally RM's stay open for a week, and hopefully someone who knows something will wander by during that time. If at that time there is still insufficient information the RM can be relisted, which is normally done by an uninvolved user/admin. Apteva (talk) 02:04, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Bashevis6920 stated it as the official name, because it's the name on the operator's web site (and he says they own it, too, which may or may not be verifiable). In any case, they don't seem have succeeded at getting people to call it that. I did look at many of the refs and external links, in addition to book and scholar searches, before doing the move. Dicklyon (talk) 02:10, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Spanish Official State Document (BOE, Boletín Oficial del Estado) which reports on the change of name from Málaga Airport to Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, May 18th, 2011.- [1] (In Spanish) --Bashevis6920 (talk) 05:52, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Motion to speedy close[edit]

This RM proposes to move the page to where I have already moved it. Nobody has objected to it as I moved it. The RM was opened as a pointy and procedural hassle because Apteva is hounding me over airport names and such. Just close it without any decision to move or not, since no move has been proposed, nor has the current title been objected to by anyone. Dicklyon (talk) 02:56, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

New name[edit]

I finally see Bashevis6920's point: it a new official name in 2011. As Google translate says from the doc he links, On September 30, 2010 the City Council agrees Malaga's request Malaga Airport be renamed "Malaga Airport-Costa the Sun," based on the interest of regional and tourism, with the strategic objective of promote brand awareness 'Malaga-Costa del Sol' in the tourism market. Whether or not "Malaga Airport–Costa del Sol" is a better translation I don't know. But in any case, we don't usually jump on new names designed to promote brand awareness, but rather wait until they catch on in reliable sources. So far, this one has not. Dicklyon (talk) 19:09, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I should have checked the history before. I see that I've essentially just undone the previous undiscussed move] of July 2012, with justification "Right name". Dicklyon (talk) 20:45, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport if an official name approved by the Spanish Government, Don't you see the document? ----> [2]
I'm sorry, Dicklyon, I can not understand how you decided to make arbitrary changes on a topic that you completely ignores.
Is really amazing. --Bashevis6920 (talk) 22:40, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why is this amazing? I already acknowledged that I followed up your info. The fact that the Spanish government has approved a new name «Aeropuerto de Málaga-Costa del Sol» doesn't mean that that's what English-language sources call the airport. When they do, we can move it. Dicklyon (talk) 22:50, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

The result of the move request was: not moved. (non-admin closure) While there was support for the move, the rational oppose arguments were more policy-based. TRLIJC19 (talkcontribs) 15:28, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Málaga AirportMálaga-Costa del Sol Airport – (per request) Apteva (talk) 14:21, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All airport articles in wikipedia use the official name of the airport. The official name is used always in Spanish newspapers[3], and English sources don't usually mention this airport. If there is proof that English sources keep using the old name, then the mover has not shown it. Apparently, the page was moved only because the official name looks "odd" to the mover: "This hyphenated odd from is seldom seen in sources". That is not a serious argument for ignoring the new official name. --Enric Naval (talk) 22:57, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You have the same name listed as both the current title and the proposed new title. Can you please clarify what you want the title to be moved to?--174.93.171.10 (talk) 03:54, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. If this was not the move intended, please correct. I have no position on the move. Apteva (talk) 14:21, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It still looks that way to me. --BDD (talk) 15:06, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed for good. --Enric Naval (talk) 16:11, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – Most English-language sources call it Malaga airport; see books. None use the odd hyphenated form, official or not; some translate it as "Malaga Airport - Costa del Sol", but let's don't go there, either. The artilce was moved to Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport a few months ago by a Spanish WP editor with comment "Right name", but it's not the right name, according to WP:COMMONNAME. Dicklyon (talk) 03:43, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support The name "Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport" is the right one (see here), according to Wikipedia:Official names. I think that's how the article should be named, adding in the introduction that it is also known as "Málaga Airport". --Bashevis6920 (talk) 04:54, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for linking Wikipedia:Official names. But you should read what it says. Dicklyon (talk) 23:50, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I made it with you in mind. Maybe it was you who should read it. You should also learn to use common sense and don't make arbitrary changes on a topic that you completely ignores. I hope not all english WP editors are like you. In your profile, you seem to be 50 years old, but behaves as 15 years old. --Bashevis6920 (talk) 00:28, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.
