Untitled[edit]

The subject of this article, Marc Shaiman, appears to have edited Wikipedia under the username Mshaiman. [1] -Joshuapaquin 03:34, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is no proof that this is him. The only way to prove it is to put it on an official site and say he edits at Wikipedia. --Thorpe | talk 17:13, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I know. That's why I used the word "appears". It implies doubt. -Joshuapaquin 00:33, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually if you look at the edits it seems pretty clear. But that means little to nothing as there is no actual policy against it. However if this is Mr. Shaiman and you look at some of the negative information that has been removed by the user, there should also be some concern. Considering the information being added it may also be a conflict of interest to promote yourself over interests of Wikipedia. The user has not edited since 2010. It may be best for them to stir clear of this page as well as all others related to the personal, professional and activist subjects the user may be involved with.--Amadscientist (talk) 19:51, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Concert/Cabaret work[edit]

Is this really notable? Can it be put into a short paragraph? It takes up a huge amount of room... -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 04:18, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

'Activism' section on marriage is biased (not point-of-view neutral)[edit]

The article says California's Prop 8 would 'prevent homosexuals from marrying', but this language assumes the definition of marriage to be 'the lifestyle union of two adults'. The other side defines marriage as 'the sexual union of a man and a woman' (i.e. to create a stable environment for procreation or to promote this custom) and therefore would say the proposition would 'prevent the redefinition of marriage to refer to same-sex couples', i.e. homosexuals would still be free to marry: They simply don't want to enter into a marriage according to this thinking.

Please correct the article to be point-of-view neutral. This can be done by not assuming a definition of marriage as is currently done, e.g. by referring simply to the disagreement over the definition of marriage and how Prop 8 sought to define marriage legally according to western heritage or Christendom. Or, if California had in fact legally assumed that definition of marriage by that time, this should be plainly stated: Then it would not be an assumption on the part of the author, but a simple fact according to the laws of California at that time. -- Newagelink (talk) 07:56, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There's no problem with the article at present. You do know that marriage in California prior to Prop 8 permitted two men to marry, or two women to marry, or a woman and a man to marry, on the basis of equal protection under law? It was to end this that Proposition 8 was propounded. Prop 8 sought not only to prevent future marriages of two men or two women, but also to invalidate all such marriages that had already taken place. If you want to learn about Prop 8 you should read its article; that information is not needed here. - Nunh-huh 02:27, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
