Copyright violation[edit]

The first version of this page from June 29, 2005 is a violation of my copyright on http://www.jacobite.ca/kings/mary3.htm The fact that it has been slightly Wikified since then does not change the fact that this article is almost entirely my intellectual work. Nobody has the right to just copy it into Wikipedia.

If somebody wants to write a completely new article for Wikipedia that is fine. Noel S McFerran July 5, 2005 17:46 (UTC)

==Mary II of Scotland?== Why would the Jacobites recognize Maria as Mary II of Scotland, instead of Mary III? After all wasn't there a Mary I of Scotland reign: 1542-67 and a Mary II of Scotland reign: 1689-94. GoodDay 17:11, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Confused[edit]

"The regnal numbers in England are a reference to her descent from Henrietta 'Minette' Stuart, Duchess of Orleans, youngest daughter of Charles I of England. After the death of the last of the Jacobite 'Pretenders', Henrietta's line-through her younger daughter (Anne-Marie of Orleans, wife of Victor Amadeus II of Savoy) became the sole legitimate line of descent of Charles I, and therefore superior to the Hanoverian claim which was based on descent from Charles I's sister Elizabeth."

Isn't her regnal number in England a reference to Mary I of Scotland's "de jure" reign in England as Mary II of England (Mary I of Scotland was regarded as rightful heiress of Mary I of England by Catholics since Elizabeth I was illegitamate and, more importantly, protestant, while the actual Mary II of England was not regarded as a rightful monarch by Catholics)? Those who did not recognize Mary Stuart as "Queen Mary II of England"——Which Mary Stuart?[edit]

I do not think that should be Mary II; I think that was Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, great-granddaughter of King Henry VII. As the discussions above, if Elizabeth I was barred from succession for her "illegitimacy", the queen should be this Mary, as Mary II of England.Heinrich ⅩⅦ von Bayern (talk) 05:40, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Corrected wrong link. Noel S McFerran (talk) 19:59, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's just that this isn't about the Mary Stuart we know as Mary (I) Queen of Scots. It is about Mary II of England and Scotland. What is the point of the Jacobite succession anyway when it recognizes Mary II of England and Scotland (and by extrapolation also William III / II), the very persons who replaces James II / VII in the first place? She should clearly be Mary II (of both England and Scotland...)Gerard von Hebel (talk) 14:17, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No one ever recognized Mary of Scots as the Queen of England, except maybe her in her own mind. Elizabeth I was recognized by the Stuarts, who didn't like Mary anyway. Ericl (talk) 23:52, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
