Reusing the same ref links.[edit]

Re [1]. Reference links usually point to the notes/refs at the bottom of the page, so when I noticed descriptions at the bottom of the page that didn't make sense with the ref links I saw in the big section (5 Singles) I changed the page to only use those ref links once in the page. Surely clarity and not having to look up/down/up/down is more important than preventing the Take a Break (2003) mention from appearing twice in the table? -- Jeandré (talk), 2009-11-12t12:36z

There is a difference between references and notations, hence the difference between <ref></ref> and {{note}} (see the documentation for the use of the note template). I have worked on many discography articles that use {{note}} to provide endnotes below a table; these are distinct from references (as notes are not citations). Many of our featured discographies use this notation style as well. See for example Nirvana discography, Nine Inch Nails discography, and Pearl Jam discography. --IllaZilla (talk) 15:56, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I still think being unambiguous is better, and more important than the precedent. -- Jeandré (talk), 2009-11-13t17:20z
I don't see how it's ambiguous. The references use standard numbers, the endnotes use roman numerals. If you click on an endnote, it takes you to that note. If you click on a citation, it takes you to that reference. Anyone who didn't "get it" could figure it out simply by clicking on them. Obviously this is a widespread practice not restricted to this article, so if you have a problem with it I suggest taking it up at the discographies project. --IllaZilla (talk) 09:40, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
