Um, please see WP:NPOV. This page is not supposed to be sympathetic to men's rights. Or opposed to them. It is supposed to be neutral and balanced (and also verifiable which it mostly isn't so far!).--Slp1 12:21, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable events[edit]

WP:NPOV nightmare[edit]

I'm afraid I think this article is an WP:NPOV nightmare. I quote from WP:NPOV: "All encyclopedic content on Wikipedia must be written from a neutral point of view (NPOV), which means representing fairly, proportionately, and, as far as possible, without bias, all of the significant views that have been published by reliable sources on a topic. … This policy is non-negotiable." By contrast, most of this article reads like a promotion page for the men's rights movement in India; everything else is crammed into a brief criticism section at the end, which probably few readers ever reach. Having negative information ghettoized in a special criticism section is depreceated, see WP:CRITICISM. The criticism needs to be incorporated into the article, in a way such that, for instance, a statement by a "researcher" that "police don't take any action even if the suicide note of a man states that he was tortured by his wife and in-laws, but in case of a woman's suicide her husband's family is taken into custody without investigation" might possibly be put into perspective, or even contradicted by somebody, in place (as opposed to elsewhere in this long article). The overall impression the article gives is that the major problems concerning men, women and family life in India are false dowry cases, false rape accusations, women demanding exorbitant alimony in divorce, and the high suicide rate of married men because they're unable to withstand verbal, emotional, economic and physical abuse from their wives. I don't want to edit it, both because it's not a field I've studied, and because I want to remain uninvolved in case I need to take admin action per the article probation the article is under (see Talk:Men's rights movement/Article probation). If nobody else wants to edit this article either, with a view to introducing fresh perspectives, I guess we're stuck with it. :-(

I don't think this talkpage is widely read, as, apart from templates, it has only been edited five times in the past eight years. I'm putting my concern on the neutral point of view noticeboard as well as here, to get more eyes on it. Please weigh in there. Pinging Kenfyre (talk · contribs), basically the only person who has edited the article since December 2014. I'm not criticising him, as I can see he's a careful, competent editor, but he has followed quite closely the pattern that was already there, mainly just adding more — more court decisions, more men's rights organisations, more criticisms, etc. This IMO doesn't address the article's structural problems. The page was actually in a worse state when I found it. I just checked the citations, added courts cases and recent events over time, and rewrote some parts. The page used suffer from vandalism and over-enthusiastic edits from well-intended editors. I'm actually in favor for your suggestions. I will work on integrating the "Criticism" into the main article and remove unnecessary quotes. -Kenfyre (talk) 17:50, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The article has problems. Lots of citations are used and it attempts to reflect the sources. The sources have problems. There is no controversy here, but rather this article is just early in its development and is getting low traffic and low editing attention. Does anybody have access to this google books source? A quote would be great. As it is, I am rather skeptical of the claim. Based on the content "In May 2014, Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) launched a mobile app called SIF One to reach out to men in distress.[27] In the same month, an all India telephone helpline was launched.[28]", I visited the Mobile App Homepage but found it to be owned by Save Indian Family (SIF) instead of SIFF.

Forcible castration and sexual destruction[edit]

Young men and boys have been forcibly kidnapped and have had their sexuality and lives destroyed by criminal mafia organizations made up of hijra and their accomplices.These acts are a serious and extreme violation of their sexual and reproductive rights,emotions,mental health.Their rights as human beings are trampled upon and their ability to reach out for help is curtailed and they are left in a horrifying,sad,tormented state[5].The tasks which they are forced to do under dangerous and threatening  conditions and violence are forced homosexual and other types of deviant sexual prostitution,along the with their additional trauma of being castrated they are at risk of being infected by HIV.[6] These barbaric crimes have continually and endlessly going on against the humanity and rights of young boys and sometimes even adult men in india.The government of India has no laws or legislation recognized for their protection and welfare similar to stop this barbaric crime which is a serious infringement on their humanity and causes emotional distress,lifelong feelings of shame,rejection,etc.

Men's Right Activists in India also work to raise awareness of gender specific crimes against men. They often demand specific legislative demands for these, much in the same vein as Indian laws that address crimes specific to women. - Mukt (talk) 19:55, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
