Recent Trends of Neighborhood and the "Local Perspective"[edit]

Before this turns into an edit war we need to make things very clear. The information on this page reflects cited studies and reports. While a 'local perspective' is welcome, it must be substantiated. I am also a local and have lived in this neighborhood my entire life. Edits should reflect actual data rather than personal opinions. If you are new to the area that is fine, but your wish to present it in a very positive light must be substantiated. There are great things about the neighborhood, but negative trends persist and it is unclear whether Mercier-est is enjoying the revitalization enjoyed by Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

That being said, I have removed the following: 1) Claims about a notable presence of Scottish families and Asian and Arab immigrants. No data substantiates the claim. The neighborhood is predominately French working class and the north-eastern portion predominately Italian (who arrived in large numbers in the 1960s). Scottish, Asians and Arabs, if present, are not notable minorities in the area. If there is data supporting otherwise, please bring it forward. 2) Claims about it being a "vibrant neighborhood" has been substituted with a more neutral claim noting that recent trends may be reversing the declining trends of the neighborhood (the latter was supported by data up to 2007 - if there is any recent census information indicating otherwise please bring it forward).
