gay and closted?[edit]

Why no mention of him being homosexual or a gay man and closeted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.78.105.208 (talk) 07:40, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There's no mention because if check the page history you'll see even correctly referenced passages are repeatedly removed, such as the one from Reuters. http://uk.reuters.com/article/2007/08/17/people-griffin-dc-idUKN1639738120070817 Engleham (talk) 11:32, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps because if Merv being gay were acknowledged it would lend credence to rumors about how and why a number of folks got their "big breaks". Just follow the money. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.1.207.4 (talk) 01:54, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
http://signorile2003.blogspot.fr/2007/08/merv-griffins-dangerous-closet.html : "Griffin never acknowledged he was gay, though it became widely known in Hollywood, even as Eva Gabor played his beard. Yet, it was nothing discussed in the media and, apparently, in many of his own circles, particularly straight political circles. Though he'd quietly led a gay life -- and had his pool parties filled with hot young men in years past, as well as a parade of boyfriends -- that was viewed as "private" information that was not discussed in mixed company. I had interviewed many gay men who'd known Griffin as gay, as well as men who told stories about how his closet had him doing horrendous things -- and how he was threatened by openly gay people." 83.112.225.158 (talk) 10:46, 29 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

family[edit]

Why no mention of his family and son —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.105.209.231 (talk) 03:59, 7 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Why no Media link in Wikipedia's Griffin article?[edit]

How can there be no Media page for Griffin in Wikimedia, resulting in only three photographs of him in this article? His career was as long as Johnny Carson's (they both started their talk shows on the same day) but there's nothing here from the bulk of his career except an extremely late photo of him with Treacher and one with him interviewing the Reagans at the White House. I have a feeling that a Media link was deleted by one of those vandals who detest the thought of more than one or two photographs in any Wikipedia article. I've begun to suspect that deletions like that are beginning to happen, an easy shortcut to quell debates about illustrating articles with several photographs. And one photo of someone in their prime is worth a thousand snapshots of their tombstone or those "Walk of Fame" sidewalk plaques (which should all be captioned simply "If you've seen one, you've seen 'em all. Literally.") Racing Forward (talk) 17:49, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I was right, there is a Wikimedia page for Merv Griffin, just no link to it in his Wikipedia article. I culled a couple of good publicity photos from early game shows he hosted and inserted them into the article. There wasn't nearly as much on the Wikimedia page as one might expect, though. WHAT ABOUT LET'S PLAY CROSSWORDS???!!![edit]

Merv Griffin has a new game show that will debut this Fall or next in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, the country's three biggest media markets. There is also a possibility that it might be produced at NBC Tower in Chicago (WMAQ). [1] (talk) 10:40, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Crosswords has been added but the ref you list above has moved. If you want to add a ref please do so directly on the article. Benjiboi 01:07, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jeopardy! History and pictures of Merv Griffin[edit]

The article makes mention of the origins of Jeopardy! in more than one location. I think there should be a reference to see more at the article for Jeopardy!'s broadcast history with the proper link provided as such. Also, a few pictures should be included here. Thanks, Alan --24.184.184.177 19:32, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Evan Dorkin "Merv Griffin" cartoon?[edit]

I don't know if that should be referenced.

Early life[edit]

I am removing the unsourced "very poor Irish family". How could the family have been so poor when the father was a stock broker? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.128.247.159 (talk) 22:19, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe he wasn't a very good stock broker? -2600:1702:2C60:A60:594C:86CC:3645:E1F4 (talk) 05:29, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Westinghouse or Metromedia???[edit]

This article references Westinghouse as the syndicator of Griffin's 1970's talk show, but later says Metromedia syndicated it. Which is correct? I do not remember off hand (I was a child when the show was on the air), but I would guess Metromedia since Group W was already producing the rival Mike Douglas Show at that time. --Msr69er (talk) 16:10, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would guess maybe both at different times. I clearly remember that he and Mike Douglas were both with Westinghouse's "Group W" talk show line-up for a while there. Racing Forward (talk) 17:33, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why no mention of his piano playing? I stumbled across a youtube video of Merv playing some impressive jazz piano with guitarist Jim Hall. I had idea he could do this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.131.165.47 (talk) 02:50, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Weird wording[edit]

Griffin kept many details of his personal and business life private, including his alleged bisexuality, and other claims that he died a closeted homosexual

Is this an error for "bisexuality, and others claim", or something else? If others claimed that he was a closeted homosexual, it's not something he could keep silent. Is this perhaps meaning "bisexuality. Others have claimed that he died a closeted homosexual."? Nyttend (talk) 00:36, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The elevator killer[edit]

The article doesn't mention that Griffin made a small, but crucially important in terms of the plot, cameo appearance as "the Elevator Killer" in the 1983 movie The Man with Two Brains. JezGrove (talk) 19:16, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pansexual category[edit]

Why is Merv in the pansexual category? It is pretty well known he was gay, closeted, and in a marriage of convenience, and he was not bisexual at all.01:41, 3 April 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.52.111.173 (talk)

'keep talking' picture[edit]
