[edit] Transfer to Manchester United
His transfer to Manchester United has not yet been agreed or anything yet. He is still regarded by the law to be a Spurs player as his professional contract still lays with this club.
So why does the article say that he is now a Manchester United player. Niall123 20:30, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Michael's brother
Can anyone tell me what happened to Michael's younger brother, who also used to play for West Ham United? His name is Graeme Carrick and I think he was born in 1985. --212.200.196.227 17:20, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "Strong in Every Department"
I've removed this quote. It wasn't cited and wasn't very true. The general concencus is that Michael Carrick isn't very good at tackling and lacks pace. [1] Niall123 12:55, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Number of caps
To the member 80.*, he has more than 1 cap, definitely. SoccerNet says so. x42bn6 Talk 17:29, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Goals for Manchester United
Carrick has definitely scored more than 3 goals for united. 2 against roma, 1 againsy sheff utd, 1 against villa, i against reading, and maybe more, i cant remember off the top of my head 86.14.246.217 19:45, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- The total in the infobox is for league games only, which is why his goal tally is only 3. Dave101→talk 20:13, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Full name
Michael Carrick only or Michael Adrian Carrick? Littlemissdevil (talk) 07:23, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Unsure. No credible sources state his middle name is Adrian. – LATICS talk 07:49, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Underrated
Ironically, there are numerous news sources describing Carrick as underrated [2], and this should be added. 86.8.176.85 (talk) 04:36, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Height
Listed between 1.83 m and 1.89 m.
Looks about 1.88 m to me.
He's at least 2 cm taller than Wes Brown who's listed everywhere as 1.85 m.[3] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.194.245.8 (talk) 02:40, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- My sources say that Carrick is between 6'0" and 6'1", meaning that he's no more than 1.86m tall. Estimating players' heights based on how they look when standing next to each other is an extremely imprecise science and should not be used here. – PeeJay 07:44, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Checking against GA criteria
- It is reasonably well written.
- a (prose):
b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
Style: a very large number of sentences start with "Carrick". Please rephrase.Could do with a thorough copy-edit. Examples: " Carrick was apart of the youth side"; " According to his manager at the time, Harry Redknapp, Carrick's difficulty at the start of his career was mainly physical and his development was hampered to the extent that he lost almost two seasons to injuries having problems with his knees because of growing too quickly."; "Rather than join the exodus that accounted for team-mates Joe Cole, Frédéric Kanouté and Jermain Defoe"; "Carrick lasted just 63 minutes of the game, a 2–1 defeat at former club West Ham United, as Arsenal beat them to fourth and a place in the Champions League."; "On 10 June 2006, Tottenham confirmed they rejected a £10 million bid from Manchester United for Carrick."; "The fee was confirmed as £14 million by United's chief executive David Gill, potentially rising to £18.6 million, which would potentially make Carrick the sixth most expensive player acquired by Manchester United at the time."; "Carrick described this defeat as worst night of his career, claiming "It came and went and it was too late. It was gone." There are many other examples of poor prose and grammar. The lead does not fully summarise the article, please see WP:LEAD- I see some work has been done, I still had to make a considerable number of copy-edits to correct basic grammatical errors. I judge the prose to now be "reasonably well written". PLease make sure that you get someone to copy-edit before submitting for nomination in future.

"The following season, 2001–02, saw Carrick make 32 appearances for The Hammers." - change the start of the sentence t The 2001-02 season, following is redundant."His second coming in happier circumstances" - not eyclopeadic I would change the whole sentence to "He scored the second goal in a 2-1 victory over rivals Chelsea ten days later""He made a goalscoring appearance for the Tottenham reserves but his first team debut for the club was delayed after suffering an injury setback on 14 September" stick a comma before but"As a result of the loss this meant rivals Arsenal" this meant is redundant"This was his final game for Tottenham as he made more crosses and more passes than any other Tottenham player during the 2005–06 season, and along with Mido was joint top in assists" not sure what his final game has to do with him making the crosses"the transfer was official as personal terms were agree with Carrick" agree - agreed"Despite agreeing a deal for the player the previous week - the fee was not made public until Spurs issued a statement to the stock exchange" mdash should used instead of hyphen"Carrick scored the first-ever Champions League goals on 10 April, scoring twice in a 7–1 home win over Roma in their quarter-final second leg tie." I think you mean his instead of the here"They would go on to lose their semi-final tie 5–3 on aggregate to eventual champions A.C. Milan and ending their hopes of an all English final with Liverpool." the ans after Milan is redundant"He would scored" remove would"His first season with Manchester United ended in success as they won the Premier League title as a result of Chelsea's 1–1 draw with Arsenal on 6 May" comma before success"his goal came in injury timeand was mere consolation in a 2–1 home loss to rivals Manchester City" time and and need separating"after breaking a bone in his foot during the challenge with Yossi Benayoun." change the to a<"Carrick scored his first goal of the 2009–10 season as he grabbed the decisive goal" again grabbed is not encyclopaedic, change it "Carrick scored his first goal of the 2009–10 season with the decisive goal""during his caree" typo"he stepped in" played would be better than stepped here"Carrick played the entire game of the 2–1 2010 League Cup Final win over Aston Villa, which gave him his first League Cup medal" very awkward sentence try Carrick played the entire game of the 2010 League Cup final, which United won 2–1 resulting in his first League Cup medal."In the international section there are lot of scorelines that require an endash, there a three alone in the first paragraph"generally getting the nod" getting the nod is not encyclopaedic change to "being preferred""He started nine games under Sven-Göran Eriksson and his successor Steve McClaren,[138] his last appearance under McClaren being a 2–1 defeat at home to Germany in August 2007" I think these are two separate sentences, also change being to "was in a"30 man has no hyphen while 31-man earlier in the section does need to be consistent with the hyphensI would make the international goals table full size to help readers with impaired vision
The issues are mainly with the prose everything else seems to be in order. Going to put the article on hold until these issues are addressed then I will happily promote it. NapHit (talk) 19:58, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
[edit] Names of Children
I'm trying to find some more reliable sources for the names of his kids but I can't find anything. I've got The Times confirming his daughter is Louise here but oddly can't find anything about his son. Anyone know anything about him? Starting to begin to doubt whether he exists. doomgaze (talk) 12:48, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- I've replaced the dead link that ref'd his daughter's name (Salvation Army magazine feature on his mother, who ought to know the name of her own granddaughter) with a working and stable-looking version, so that doesn't need fixing. Unfortunately, the only publications that are actually interested in the names of footballers' kids (apart from Rooneys and Beckhams, that is) are celebrity gossip pages, so you'll be lucky to find anything better... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:25, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- Cheers for replacing the link but I've read through it and (unless I missed it) I can't see anything about his son, so if it's ok with you I'd rather replace it with the Times source (it's a bit easier to find the info there too haha). I see your point, but for Louise there's a fair number of brief snippets that he had a daughter or that his missus was expecting and so on, and then some more significant bits from the not-that-reliable tabloids. But there's nothing in any of the tabloids about a son. To be honest I'm pretty surprising this got through GA with kickette.com as a source. "We promise to never write about real news like transfers, sports stats or the offside rule – because 1. we know you’re already getting that information elsewhere, and 2. we know you know your footy inside out. Instead, we pledge to offer as much in-depth frivolity and superficial reports of hot players and their nice automobiles as is possible within our regular manicure schedules." Seriously? doomgaze (talk) 13:47, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- Carry on, by all means. Though a throwaway line in a broadsheet piece about football isn't inherently more reliable for family info than a reputable, albeit not mainstream, magazine feature about a member of Mr Carrick's close family. As that piece dates from rather before the boy was born, it's not really surprising it doesn't mention him... As to the kickette link, I'd have removed it myself long since if I'd ever happened across anything better. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:10, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
