The articles from New York Magazine are not all about "people who made it to the top, but arrived to the city with very little". It is more about various memories of their experience by the people who've made a name for themselves in New York. As an example, Diane von Furstenberg is featured in this article, and when she first arrived to NYC, she was a princess (after her marriage to Prince Egon Von Furstenberg).
