I believe the film director Michael Powell (director) is by far the most popular one and the others should be moved to a dab and his article placed at Michael Powell. Most google book hits are about him [1]Dr. Blofeld 12:33, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Support, as per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. - SchroCat (talk) 16:08, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Support The director seems to qualify as the primary topic. --Loeba (talk) 19:04, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose The politician seems to be as of equal notability, and this keeps the status quo of having this article as the disambig page to easily spot incorrect incoming links. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 12:17, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'd have to disagree with that on the weight of google book coverage. 9000 hits for Michael Powell politician 124,000 hits for Michael Powell director. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:43, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Blofeld's Google Books result supports the director being primary for long-term significance. A regular Google search seems to support it being primary for usage (more than half the total results.) Having nothing better to do, I checked the 90-day page view stats:
Article 90-day page views
Michael Powell (director) 14,119
Michael Powell (politician) 6,806
Michael Powell (bookseller) 64
Michael Powell (lacrosse) 2,581
Michael J. Powell 727
Michael J. D. Powell 838
total non-directors 11,016
Michael Powell (bookseller) redirects to Powell's Books, which gets 8039 hits. It seems that almost everyone goes to Powell's books direct.
The Mike Powell results do not seem relevant, since someone looking for these Powells would almost certainly use Mike. The stats are:
Article 90-day page views
Mike Powell (rugby union) 253
Mike Powell (journalist) 319
Mike Powell (athlete) 19349
Mike Powell (cricketer, born 1975) 199
Mike Powell (cricketer, born 1977) 499
Mike Powell (athlete) stats may be misleading due to a spike three months ago. The last 30 days had 3263, which would extrapolate to 9789 in 90 days. My guess is that a lot of these hits are looking for some other athlete.
Bottom line is that the director gets more than all other Michael Powell's combined, 56% vs 44%. The proposed move would therefore reduce the average number of clicks needed to reach the desired page from 2 to 1.88 and the average number of list views from 1 to 0.44. • Support – per the Google result; a stone bonker as far as I'm concerned. The director is by far the more popular individual. -- CassiantoTalk 21:50, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - for all the reasons given above.--Ipigott (talk) 11:11, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tidy up after move[edit]

Is anyone going to tidy this up after this move? All of the links that were referring to just 'Michael Powell' which didn't refer to the director or to any of the other people listed on Wikipedia which should now presumably be directed to 'Michael Powell (disambiguation)'. Then all of the links to 'Michael Powell (director)' which should now presumably be directed to 'Michael Powell'. -- SteveCrook (talk) 01:50, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Redirection[edit]

Why does the Talk page for Michael Powell redirect here? -- SteveCrook (talk) 15:00, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Now fixed. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 13:08, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Preservation[edit]

I'm glad that AMPAS are preserving some of the Powell & Pressburger films, but are they restoring them or just preserving them? And what about the P&P films restored by Scorsese's Film Foundation? -- SteveCrook (talk) 15:00, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

People from Avening[edit]

How can he be from Bekesbourne (near Canterbury, Kent) AND from Avening (in Gloucestershire)? Surely he can only be FROM one place. IF you want to take a strange meaning for the phrase "people from" then he's also from London because he lived there for a long time as well -- SteveCrook (talk) 01:38, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mike vs Michael[edit]

I started a discussion at Talk:Mike Powell that is relevant to this page. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 19:53, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
