Proposed Move[edit]

Mika (singer) has had a UK number one album, and number one singles in the UK and Ireland, and appears to be a rising star. As none of the other articles linked to would in fact be called 'Mika', I propose that the singer be moved to Mika and this page to Mika (disambiguation). Thoughts? • Support move. No other person on Wikipedia is called simply "Mika". I think when people think of the word "Mika" on its own, without a surname, the only thing/person they'd be after would be the singer (ie. if they were looking for Mika Häkkinen, they wouldn't just think "Mika".) Certainly notable enough to get the article name. If he turns out to be less famous later on, we can always move them back. ConDemTalk 02:11, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move. I agree that almost everyone typing in "Mika" would be looking for the singer, and also agree that he is certainly notable enough. Under the terms of Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Primary_topic, Mika the singer would constitute the "primary topic". --Paul Erik 03:40, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. That seems short-sighted, as the singer seems to have been famous only for few months and mainly in the UK, not to mention that pop stars' careers are often over very quickly. Häkkinen has been referred to as "Mika" for 15 years, and still the media often simply uses his first name, such as here and here (from the last 24 hours). This seems to be common with many Finns, because Mika is short and easy to pronounce whereas the Finnish last name often is not. There is also the Armenian football team FC MIKA. Therefore, I do not think this singer has become the primary meaning for "Mika" yet. The singer's entry could be moved on top of the Mika list, instead. Although, when it comes to singing Mikas, Mika Nakashima seems to be even more notable. This move proposal should have been listed on WP:RM, since notifying editors only on Talk:Mika (singer) creates an unbalanced discussion. Prolog 04:43, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. But the discussion is at Mika, since that is the page being moved. If you think this should be different, please modify... Further discussion should be there. I suppose. ConDemTalk 05:00, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment Regarding Häkkinen, those 2 news stories quoted above are using the name "Mika" in the headline of the article only. This is most likely due to headline size restrictions as he is referred to repeatedly as either Häkkinen, or Mika Häkkinen from then on. Not once is he called "Mika" in the actual stories. 172.202.62.231 18:47, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, to avoid duplication further debate should presumably go in the templated section ConDem has started at Talk:Mika (singer)#Requested_move. I'll note the votes that have already been made in here over there. TSP 18:50, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Move the others to Mika(disambiguation)[edit]

Support The others would not go simply by the name of Mika, but the singer does, so I definitely think the above changes should be made. He is now such a celebrity that the move is surely justifiable. 172.206.252.28 16:36, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support , the artist is 100x more common than the Finnish football club (possibly this disambiguation was created for nationalistic reasons) and there is no need for a disambiguation for a firstname. / IP user 83.176.231.198 11:12, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Mika (singer) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 05:31, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
