I converted all instances of "Mission Santa Bárbara" to "Mission Santa Barbara" because the mission's own website generally uses the spelling without the acute accent. If we wanted to use the Spanish spelling it would have to be "Misión Santa Bárbara" anyway, so "Mission Santa Bárbara" is just plain inconsistent. --Angr/tɔk tə mi 11:56, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

Good: thanks. I've never seen it spelled with the acute accent myself; it's certainly not done that way locally. Antandrus (talk) 15:04, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

In my opinion is the address 34°26′02″N, 119°43′04″W slightly wrong; at least I couldn't find the church with this address. But I found by trial and error: 34°26′18″N, 119°42′47″W —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.193.12.17 (talk) 16:24, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Questionable facts

My understanding is that the parish at Old Mission Santa Barbara is called St. Barbara Parish. The parish has been in existence for many many years which it is still a Franciscan parish, clergy is appointed by the Provincial, not by the Cardinal . Many years ago it was decided that The Franciscan Friars would turn the parish over to the LA Archdiocese in which would take care of its ministers and staff. To say that the parish "rents" the space is somewhat incorrect. The parish does make very large contributions tot he Franciscan Friars but it is only to defray the cost and maintenance of such a beautiful historical building. The parish does contribute to the Franciscan Friary but not as renters. I, too, work for the Mission. I think we should be as clear as possible how we label the many entities of the OMSB. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.214.244.221 (talk) 17:20, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Current function and affiliation of Old Mission Santa Barbara

The Wikipedia states that Mission Santa Barbara is currently a parish church affiliated with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Correct, but incomplete. It also contains a museum,a gift shop, a Franciscan Friary and a retreat house. The Mission is owned by the Franciscan Province of Santa Barbara which is geographically much larger the Los Angeles Archdiocese. The parish actually rents the church from the Franciscans. It would be nice to include SOME of this, although I'm not clear about how I'd edit it (oh, I work for the Old Mission Santa Barbara.)72.214.244.133 (talk) 23:29, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestions! I added your contribution to the article. Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 02:52, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
