Is there any official explanation for how Mordenkainen's spells are known outside of Greyhawk?

I think 3rd Ed and beyond, using the SRD, just sort of assumed they were called by their SRD names (Mord's Disjunction being simply, Disjunction). The SRD is open source, so Wizards of the Coast didn't include their copyrighted names like Mordenkainen in it; they are in the Player's Handbook because it protects the copyright. I'm pretty sure that Mordenkainen was the Wizard played by Gygax in one of the very first D & D campaigns, but I can't prove this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.194.98.36 (talk) 00:14, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There was a monthly article in Dragon magazine that had Mordenkainen meet Dalamar (Dragonlance) and Elminster (Forgotten Realms) at a neutral hideaway where they exchanged spells. Turlo Lomon (talk) 19:57, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
