Copy edit[edit]

Hi HaEr48. I have finally started work on this. Apologies that the first thing I did broke the syntax. I will come back to that. I tend to copy edit fairly boldly, so feel free to flag up here anything you disagree with or don't see why I have changed.

I enjoyed assessing your article on Muhammad I of Granada for GA and the peer review process. You seem to be close to done for FA. If it does need another reviewer, give me a ping.

I have had a quick first run through. I will look again in more detail, probably tomorrow. Gog the Mild (talk) 19:27, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Well up to GA standard IMHO. Good work. Gog the Mild (talk) 12:29, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gog the Mild: Thanks for the copyediting! I like that you have paraphrases a lot of my awkward phrasings into ones that read nicely. I checked your edits, and apart from minor typo like VII vs VIII, they all seem fine. Just in time for DYK main page appearance too. HaEr48 (talk) 03:36, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Query[edit]

"Henry III went to Andalusia and Martín I of Aragón strengthened the defenses of Valencia in anticipation of an invasion." The "Henry III went to Andalusia" bit reads oddly. I assume that he did this "in anticipation of an invasion", but why? In what way did his presence in Andalusia achieve this? Gog the Mild (talk) 20:16, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Gog the Mild: Andalusia is in his realm's south, which border Granada, the origin of the invasion threat. I replaced with "went to the south", hopefully that is clearer given that the included map shows Granada to be in Castile's southern borders. Let me know if I can do more. HaEr48 (talk) 03:32, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Clearer now I think. Gog the Mild (talk) 12:29, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

7 of one, 8 of another?[edit]

The article is named Muhammad VII of Granada but there are many mentions of a "Muhammad VIII". I see

  • Muhammad VII 25 mentions
  • Muhammad VIII 8 mentions

I'd fix this myself if there were just a couple 'VIII's, but I really can't tell if there might be two people being talked about or not.

So how many of these are the son of "Yusuf II" and how many are actually the son of "Yusuf III"? I think I see:

Muhammed V ->
Yusuf II ->
Muhammed VII ->
Yusuf III ->
Muhammed VIII ->
Muhammed IX ->
Yusuf IV ->
Muhammed IX ->
Yusuf V ->
Muhammed X ->
Muhammed XI ->
Sa'ad
Yusuf V ->

Can we find a way to either correct the wrong 'III's or else better distinguish the subject and the subjectI? Shenme (talk) 01:22, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Shenme: I went ahead and fixed them [1]. I authored large part of this article, and it seems that I have been making silly unconscious typos. Sorry for the confusion and thank you for pointing it out. As for Muhammad VIII, he came into prominence much later than Muhammad VII's life, and given the timeline of the events covered by this article, none of the typos could have referred to him. HaEr48 (talk) 01:46, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Shenme: I suspect that many of the errors will be down to me, as this was between two copy editing run throughs. HaEr48, thanks for sorting them out. Gog the Mild (talk) 11:25, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have made a few copy edits, which you will want to check.
  • Note a: why are sultan, king and emir in italics?
    • Because they are "words used as words" (MOS:WAW). Is it not correct?
  • Well now, you are probably right. Silly me!
  • "Henry III blamed Muhammad VII for the breakdown of the truce and summoned his Cortes to Toledo in December 1406.[20] While negotiations was underway, Henry III became ill and died on 25 December." Do the "negotiations" refer to negotiations with the Muslims, or within the Cortes?
    • With the Cortes (to support his planned war). Does this help?
  • It does.

Thanks for taking a look, Gog the Mild. Let me know if you have more suggestions. HaEr48 (talk) 14:02, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

And done. A fine piece of work. Possibly the simplest GAN I have done. Gog the Mild (talk) 14:10, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
