"long ended"?[edit]

Could anyone elaborate on this expression? As in This locomotive had to pass all tests, such as being able to shunt if required, drive "long ended" if needed, and allow drivers to do checks on fuel, brakes, sand etc. Thanks, —Sam Wilson (Australia) 04:38, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fuel efficiency?[edit]

Possible Move?[edit]

Re model railway section[edit]

I've removed the pricing data because that's a fair criticism re "not a catalogue", but the list of models produced over time is useful both historically and as a quick reference for anybody about to make a purchase of either a new unit (to avoid duplication) or an old unit (to check which run, if a number was only produced in one or two runs). This helps if there are certain features that matter, or if the age of the unit is relevant.

There might be an argument for shifting the content to a new page at some point in the future with a "main article here" type link, but since the model railways section (with table collapsed) does not dwarf the main article content I don't think that is necessary yet.

Class List general notes[edit]

I noticed a few things in the fleet details section (class list) that could do with some fixes - first, that it has been marked as not citing any sources. I've added the well-known VICSIG site to counter as a reference at the bottom of the table as it holds all the required information, bar last known operator. However, this leads to another problem - all the information is single-sourced, and can't be cross-checked. This is especially problematic when I note discrepancies, including (but not limited to):

  1. NR104 listed as entering service in April 1997, despite serial number listing August 1997, locomotive 309 (lower-numbered locomotives also entered service during June)
  2. NR105 listed as entering service in July 1997, despite serial number listing August 1997 (similar issue to NR104)
  3. NR108's name on Vicsig listed as "Town of Alice" - I assume it's meant to be "Town of Alice Springs," where I've linked it, but this is not verifiable without a second source.
  4. NR109 and NR110 listed entering service August 1997, despite serial numbers indicating September 1997 (similar issue to NR104 and NR105).

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could list another source of locomotive details to cross-check. The incomplete state of the table can be addressed - I've just entered NR101-110 into the table and I will be able to enter 111-122 soon, although preferably this could be done after a second source is made available.

A minor issue I did note was a slight degree of vandalism: various locomotives in the NR90-100 range were listed by an unregistered IP user as named after K-Pop bands - this should be false, as the locomotives were constructed and entered service well before the formation of these bands, nor do I think Pacific National would name their locomotives after K-Pop bands anytime soon. I've deleted this, but thought I should note if it ever pops up again. --Stampyfanclub (talk) 11:05, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Horsepower & Tractive Effort[edit]
