Apartment Complexes[edit]

We need a source for LGBT apartment complexes. Like a link to a directory or something. Googling "LGBT apartments OKC" doesn't really turn up anything. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.97.38.241 (talk) 18:56, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I added some sources[edit]

I went through and added sources to support what information was there. I also removed biased information. As such, I removed the "this article needs sources" warning label.

Okay... Better...[edit]

I am not going to say this page is perfect, but I TRIED. If you don't like it, edit it yourself, LOL -- It has apparently been in existence for years, with an advertorial flag on it for much of that time. Nobody else seemed to want to fix it. I believe I have made it much more neutral and accurate. I will go back through and source the statements I made as appropriate.

39th & Penn has a ton of significance here in the Great Plains and Midwest... the Habana Inn is a gay cultural icon... it is so sad to see how horrible this article was. As I said, my revision may not be perfect but it's a start.

I will also include a photo of the Habana Inn if there is one in public domain... I will check the Oklahoma County Tax Assessor's web site.

Here is the old version's verbiage, just for recordkeeping's sake:

The NW 39th Street Enclave, Oklahoma City's gay village, is mostly concentrated along and around a section of NW 39th Street due north of Oklahoma City University, off Pennsylvania Avenue in the city's burgeoning near-northwest quadrant. The district is commonly known simply as 39th Street.
The neighbourhood houses the bulk of the city's most popular gay and lesbian nightclubs and bars, as well as a number of retail stores catering to the large LGBT community. While the area is relatively quiet during the daylight hours, it comes very alive at night with throngs of patrons visiting the many bars, taverns, dance clubs, and shops.
Oklahoma City, due to its large diversity, is an increasingly open-minded city and is generally gay-friendly with many lively LGBT venues and attractions, which is somewhat contrary to past popular opinion. The city is well-known, particularly among the gay subculture, for being open-minded and generally tolerant of alternative lifestyles; although not quite as publicly embracing of gay society as some of its counterparts on the West Coast. While it may not be as common to see public visual displays of affection among gays in all areas of the city, the enclave itself offers a great oasis of refuge where businesses openly cater to gay patrons and visitors can enjoy the company of their peers.
Gay-friendly hotels in the district are readily available and are usually excellent value for money. This includes the famous Habana Inn hotel, billed as the largest gay resort in the United States - complete with 200 rooms, two dance clubs, restaurant, piano bar, gift shop, two swimming pools, and theme attractions. It is advisable to book in advance when staying in Oklahoma City, especially during the annual Oklahoma City Gay, Lesbian, bisexual, transgender & intersex pride parade and festival held in June.

Update: Can't find a public-domain image of the Habana. There are two on the county tax assessor's Web site, but neither are good enough to use and don't really show much of the hotel. If anyone has one they would like to donate, that would be cool.
