Naugles was Awesome![edit]

It was nearly thirty years ago, in 1977, that I was first introduced to the wonderful world of Naugles chain of fast food Mexican restaurants. It was my first year at Pacific Christian College in Fullerton California (now Hope International University). Naugles was already a tradition and a steady diet for many of students attending PCC. It was within walking distance from the college (and that was a good thing since I didn't have a car, at the time, but most of my friends did!). On almost any given night (but mostly Friday or Saturday nights) we would all load up in someones car after a long night of theological debate or some off beat discussion and head out for a "Naugles Run." A Naugles Run was usually after midnight so we could get a "Macho Steak and Egg Burrito" or a "Macho Combo Burrito" and a large Dr. Pepper. The steak and egg burrito was not on the menu, and I guess after we requested it so many times that they finally added it. We would always ask to have our burritos double wrapped, i.e. wrap the burrito with an extra tortilla; this kept the macho burrito from falling apart (yes it had so much meat and beans in it that it was physically impossible to eat it without it falling apart!) Naugles was almost a second campus and a place to hang out and have a meal when the cafeteria was closed on the weekends.

In my second or third year at PCC (Pacific Christian College) we had our annual "College Day", where high school seniors who were considering attending PCC spent the night in the dorms to get an idea of college life. The resident assistants were asked to do something fun with all the students for that evening, well just about every R.A. took them on a late night trip to Naugles. It was like an invasion, hundreds of students all walking to Naugles and getting food. They were completely overwhelmed we nearly exhausted their supply of food. On the other hand they had the second best sales night in Naugles history. The next year we let Naugles know ahead of time and they were ready for us and everyone had a great time and that night. And that was the biggest one day I think that Naugles ever had at one location.

Towards the end of my college days I finally met Dick Naugle. He was having lunch right there in in Fullerton. I talked to him for a few minutes and told him how much I enjoyed his food and how going to Naugles was an essential part of my college experience.

I remember my great disappointment when I went back to PCC many years ago and noticed that the Naugles on Placentia Ave. was now a Del Taco. With that, Naugles had come full circle. Long live Naugles in our hearts and memories. Gil--Today that Del Taco is a Pepe's Mexican Grill.

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater[edit]

I have added some good information here. One bit was about a petition on my blog (that Del Taco knows about and is fine with) but it was removed because Wikipedia thinks that anything coming from blogspot must be bad information. Whatever. My problem is that somebody (or the bot) also deleted information I included here that contained no links whatsoever and just gave good information about Naugles. Naugles Tag Line[edit]

Does anyone remember the Naugles Tag Line? It was on every receipt, but I can't remember it. It went something like "Dick Naugle says ...". If anyone knows it, please add it to the article. Fajitas[edit]
