There should be a Neighborhood infobox, with things like what? population?, Ward, council/school board.

Also the Geo-links template is good and should show up somehow.

Neighborhoods map[edit]

The neighborhoods on the map I've uploaded doesn't match this list perfectly (because I did not make it for this specific purpose). If anyone would like to edit the map, the svg is available on Wikitravel Shared. Upper Northwest[edit]

The term "Upper Northwest" does not apply exclusively to Ward 3. Portions of Ward 4 are also considered to be in the Upper Northwest. Removing the term from the next to Ward 3. Quacks Like a Duck (talk) 02:18, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting article?[edit]

This article needs to be split down to the Wards. Like Neighborhoods of New York City has been split down to the Boroughs. Mr Taz (talk) 15:39, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd disagree, and would like to see a positive argument in favor of such a split. My objections would be simply that D.C. is a far smaller city than NYC—the boroughs of the latter city are large enough to be considered separate cities—and that the article is not terribly long as it is. --Peter ^Talk 01:05, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

not a federal work[edit]

I've made this comment before on the DC Ward map page but the DC Ward map is a work of OCTO which is part of the DC govt, and which is *not* a federal agency. I doubt very much therefore it is public domain and we're probably breaching copyright Cphi (talk) 09:53, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Related category[edit]

I noticed Category:United States communities with African American majority populations has been added to > half of the D.C. neighborhood articles (57 out of 127, if I counted correctly). The category header says "This category includes articles about cities, towns, and other Census designated places in the United States which have African American majority populations." Washington, D.C. already includes the category, so I have a few questions: 1) Is it considered overlapping categories? 2) The header doesn't mention neighborhoods. Is that intentional? 3) What source is being used to determine whether or not a D.C. neighborhood's population is 50.01% African American? I thought it was common knowledge that some neighborhoods no longer have a black-majority population (Strivers' Section, Adams Morgan, West End, Capitol Hill), while others are harder to define because of gentrification (U Street Corridor, Columbia Heights, Logan Circle, Shaw, Mount Vernon, Southwest Waterfront). I would say for the purposes of such a category, only the city would be recognized. It doesn't make sense to list each neighborhood. Neighborhoods are local entities designated by he DC government, not the Census Bureau. Further, I do not know of any source that specifically details the ethnic composition of each D.C. neighborhood. Therefore, any users who add D.C. neighborhoods to the category are most likely using unsourced information or are calculating the data themselves in direct violation of WP:OR. More Ward information[edit]

I've just added ward maps (not the DC.gov ones, but user-created ones licensed under GNU), as well as the councilmembers for each wards. Since nearly every article with a mention of DC's wards links to this one, I'd think we'd want as much ward-specific info on this page as we can fit.

Official Neighborhoods[edit]

Not only is the list of neighborhoods poorly defined, and downright inaccurate at times, there are also several official neighborhoods in the city as defined by either BID or CID standards. The area in NW DC bordered by 7th Street, New York Ave, New Jersey Ave, and Massachusetts Ave has been an official neighborhood, under the name of Mount Vernon Triangle, since 2004. I agree. Listing neighborhoods by ward is a useless exercise. For one, the article on the Advisory Neighborhood Commissions already divides the city by political boundaries. Neighborhoods also have broader definition and can be defined by a number of factors, least of which are wards that change every Census.
