Untitled[edit]

In my opionion there needs to be some clarification of the multiple uses of the terminology "seats", "electoral districts", "electoral subdivisions" and "electorates" because these are all variously used to actually refer to the same thing.

No need. Seats and electorates are common terms; electoral districts and electoral subdivisions are official terms. We use the former almost universally, except in article titles, in which we use "electoral district". Rebecca 22:46, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Exceptional circumstances[edit]

Elections are held every four years on the fourth Saturday in March, exceptional circumstances notwithstanding, ...

Comment: That seems to be saying that, even if there are exceptional circumstances, the election date is fixed. What I think it's trying to say is that the election date is fixed unless there are exceptional circumstances that cause it to be on a different date. If that's the correct intepretation, we need to say something about what kinds of circumstances can require a election on a date other than March. If it's not the correct intepretation, there's no need to mention exceptional circumstances at all. -- JackofOz (talk) 00:01, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proportional representation[edit]

The article about the Progressive Party claims that they achieved representation in the NSW Legislative Assembly around 1920 due to "proportional representation". Is this correct ? When did the NSW Legislative Assembly have proportional representation, and in what form of it ?Eregli bob (talk) 07:31, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Structure[edit]

The structure I am proposing is currently the only one available. I am happy with it. If you are unhappy with it, please, make a better one. All I am saying is that until that happens, we should at least add the only available structure. Andreas11213 (talk) 22:51, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, the general idea yes, the current execution no. Why is the crossbench not, you know, on the crossbench? And also the Speaker needs to be indicated. Room for improvement[edit]

I've just read this, and there are three problems: The assertion that Aborigines could not vote in NSW until 1949, does not seem to be actually substantiated by the source cited. The poster showing the MP's in 1880, would not seem to be the first NSW Legislative Asseembly, which started in 1856. Is the caption correct ? For a period ( I think 1920-1929 ), the NSW Legislative Assembly was apparently elected by multi-member seats with some sort of proportional representation. I knowledgeable person could add something about this, it's the reason I came to look at this article today, and it's not mentioned here.Lathamibird (talk) 02:37, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
