Error[edit]

1984 election: In total, the New Zealand Party gained 12.2% of the vote, putting it in second place. surely this should be third place, behind major parties Labour and National?

Formation[edit]

According to Barry Gustafson in The First 50 Years: A History of the New Zealand National Party, p 149, Jones was annoyed by the 1982 Income Tax Amendment Act, and decided in January 1983 to stand as an independent in the 1984 election. In August 1983, he launched the New Zealand Party.

It is possible therefore that Jones did some political organisation in 1982, but the party was not formed until the following year.-gadfium 19:11, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I joined the party when it was launched - that was in 1983 not 1982. Incidentally I did not agree with their politics, I just liked the idea of joining a new party.Royalcourtier (talk) 21:11, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Social Credit[edit]

I think that is not correct that Social Credit "managed to win two seats, probably as the result of having specifically focused its attention on them since the 1950s". The party did not have such a long term vision, and certainly did not focus on particular seats for long periods of time. The seats it won were primarily where specific local circumstances allowed Scored in - i.e. a bye-election when the government popularity was low.Royalcourtier (talk) 21:09, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
