Byzantine Empire and solidus[edit]

The word nomisma goes back much farther than the Byzantine Empire and solidus. Gold is not a nomisma but can be used that way, just like paper, silver, tobacco or anything else deemed to be used as money is a "nomisma" under general acceptance or law.--2share (talk) 03:08, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
