- Odessa, Ukraine got its name from Greek settlers from old Odessa in Greece which doesn't exist anymore. It says Odessa, Ukraine is the source of all other names but wouldn't Odessa, Greece be the source? And why doesn't Odessa, Greece have an article. It was a sweet city by all accounts.
