Pronunciation[edit]

just curious, anyone know how to pronounce this word?

  • Based on dictionary.com [1], it looks like it's pronounced ek-yoo-men --Dolemite17 19:08, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Mumford[edit]

I have never heard of a cultural theorist called Louis Mumford. A Google search for oecumene and mumford produces lots of references to Louis Mumford but these all appear to be derived from this page, so they cannot be regarded as independent evidence for the existence of Louis. So I am changing this reference to Lewis Mumford. However, I am not familiar with his introduction of this word, and I have added a citation-needed tag.--RichardVeryard 10:51, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
