Untitled[edit]

  • 1498: Burning of O'Neill Castle (Near Dublin Road Corner) by Garret Mor, Earl of Kildare.

1567: Second Burning of O'Neill Castle, again by Garret Mor.

Garret Mor burned the Castle in 1498 and then again 69 years later??? Is this correct, do we have a case of a son sharing his fathers name??

  • Surely Garret Mor's son would be called Garret Óg, if that was the case?

Mór is simply an appalation for the current head of the family or current chieftain - Mac Cárthaigh Mór was a name used by successive generations signifying the ruling house, and that is how I would assume it is being used here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.48.55.179 (talk) 02:01, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unjustified removal[edit]

People seem adamant to keep Joe McMahon out of the list of notable people from Omagh. I have yet to hear anyone justify this, but I think that being the only person from the town to have an All-Ireland medal definately makes him noteworthy. If this is not disputed soon, I am going to have to put his name back on the list.--Macca7174 19:32, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

pronunciation[edit]
