Stadium naming[edit]

Not sure how User:JaMikePA concluded that the stadium was officially renamed from Lynx Stadium back to Ottawa Stadium. Although the Lynx name has to go at some point, today's Metro article on the Rapids (15 Feb 2008 p2) speculated the facility's name could become Rapids Stadium [1]. In any case, WP page renames need to be based on verifiable sources and official decisions (i.e. WP:V). Dl2000 (talk) 23:20, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More stadium name problems - please read before any further renaming or cut & paste[edit]

Until there are some available reliable sources indicating a new stadium name, the Ottawa Stadium name should remain for now. Recent edits have introduced some cut & paste problems, and seemed to be based on prediction rather than proof. "Ottawa Stadium" is still mentioned according to recent available citations, and could very well remain the facility's name: Ottawa Business Journal 29 April and CBC 28 April. People are definitely jumping the gun on the naming of this article. IMHO, there really isn't an 'official' name for the stadium. It's only had a name for the sake of reporting in the media. It's been up for grabs for the history of the building. I have never seen a sign on the building, on the road, etc. showing the name. (I don't go that often, so forgive me if there is one) Only in the paper or broadcast. Even the trailblazer road signs on the 417 only show the name 'Stadium' on them. Longtime employees?[edit]

I'm of the opinion that statements like these need to justify their own inclusion. Is Steven Bennett famous because he's an 89-year-old ball boy? A quick search shows that the former name may still be the common name of the stadium. Furthermore, the proposed name will lead to further confusion, given that there are other stadiums in Ottawa as well. – robertsky (talk) 10:59, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ottawa Stadium has redirected to this article, apparently without confusion, since 2008. While I agree that sources are minimal during the offseason, both the team and the city of Ottawa are using "Ottawa Stadium". I expect secondary sources to quickly follow suit, as is the case with other stadia whose naming rights expire or change. 162 etc. (talk) 17:51, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Opposed. The source given doesn't say anything about naming rights, lapsed or otherwise. It mentions no previous names and no reasons for changes. Did the rights lapse, or did they change for some other reason? All we've got there is that the Ottawa Titans website uses Ottawa Stadium as the name. From the article history, this change was first proposed in May 2022, yet there are reliable third party sources using RCGT Park well after that. It was still called RCGT Park on November 1, 2022 by Capital Current, published by Carleton University's journalism program. An Ottawa Citizen photo caption in a February 9, 2023 editorial also uses RCGT Park. I haven't found any sources saying what happened and when, and the use of Ottawa Stadium as the name is not uniform. Too few answers for me. -- Pemilligan (talk) 16:18, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
None of these four sources give a why or when, and two of them are having it both ways: apt613.ca includes "Ottawa Stadium (formerly RCGT Park)" and "their first-ever homestand at RCGT Park", while CTV News uses "Ottawa Stadium" and "Ottawa Stadium at RCGT Park". -- Pemilligan (talk) 19:23, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
