Photo date of 1848 is incorrect and should be 1858[edit]

The new photo of Pio Pico in the Medical history section includes the date of 1848. This is a common error and should be changed to the correct date of 1858. I have an exact copy of the original image granted to me from the Bancroft Library to permit our publication of the medical history of Pio Pico which was the basis for the Wiki entry of his medical history (reference #3). Just beneath his oval image and sadly, cut off from the Wiki published picture, is the inscription, “Don Pio Pico – 1858.” If you go to the original web site for this photo, http://www.oac.cdlib.org/ark:/13030/tf5v19p1bx/

and enlarge the image you will see exactly what I am describing. The notation in the url figure title, “in the style of 1848” refers to something about the style of the image that was taken but has nothing to do with the date of the image. This error is critically important to the medical history and needs to be changed. I wanted to avoid conflict as much as possible so I thought it would be best to bring this topic to the discussion/talk page first before changing the error. I look forward to a reply from someone about this and would appreciate some guidance about exactly how to change the error if this point is accepted. Rancho Paso de Bartolo Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita y Las Flores, Rancho de Bartolo (El Ranchito) info[edit]

  • See article for references.*NOTE: he has California ranchos category

Born a creole?[edit]

If we know that he is of very mixed origins, then we definitely cannot assert that he was born a creole. Let us remember that Latin American creoles are those of completely European descent.

Alvarado[edit]

Why does the article say Pio Pico was the last Mexican governor of Alta California if he was succeded by Juan Bautista Alvarado in 1837? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.8.252.44 (talk) 20:55, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Inaccurate date or description[edit]

In the "Business Life" section the second paragraph begins, "By the 1850s Pico was one of the richest men of Mexican Alta California." By 1848, Mexican Alta California was the US territory of California. So either the date is inaccurate (should be 1840s, or even 1830s?), or "Mexican Alta" is an incorrect descriptor for California here.Przip (talk) 14:54, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Helping a friend[edit]

I added the section where it shows the subject as a honorable man standing by his friend and paying the cost. John R. Carpenter Jrcrin001 (talk) 09:16, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

This has almost nothing to do with Pio Pico. It is all about Lemuel Carpenter. Recommend moving to that article.Emargie (talk) 00:46, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes the intro is long but it does provide how loyal he was to his friends and the difficulty adjusting to a new culture. Plus it shows the start of his financial downfall. Feel free to sumarize the section. John R. Carpenter Jrcrin001 (talk) 19:44, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Pico Boulevard[edit]

Is Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles named for Pio Pico or Andres Pico http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9s_Pico ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.167.176.62 (talk) 04:41, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
