Error on pack hunting mainly being by males.

What about lions? The lionesses do most of the hunting and lions are mammals too. 98.212.98.58 (talk) 00:24, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that Cooperative hunting be merged into the (far) more commonly used term Pack hunter; Social predation already redirects here. The topics are the same as far as animal behaviour is concerned, so we effectively have a simple content fork that has arisen by accident, long ago. (Google estimates Pack hunter at 222 million hits; Pack hunting at 153 million; Cooperative hunting at 15.5 million; and Social predation at 6 million.) As it happens, the Cooperative hunting article is more detailed and better cited, but Pack hunter is the better title, so a full merge seems to be required. OK, a month has passed so I've boldly gone, etc. The result needs cleanup but is already an improvement. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:52, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Alpha is an outdated concept[edit]

"Humans easily take over the dominance hierarchy of dogs as subordinates instinctively follow the “alpha” individual and dogs are accustomed to living very close together[10]"

This is a reference to an outdated concept. Even the researcher which coined it has indicated that it's inaccurate. I suggest it be removed, or at least clarified to only possibly apply to captive packs. Though the applicability of this to the original domestication of canines is still really speculative. 184.75.212.180 (talk) 17:35, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I've removed it. A better source (scientific review article) would be needed to support such a claim. Chiswick Chap (talk) 17:42, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
