Official website?[edit]

I've removed the link to http:// www.palaceonwheels.net/, pending some evidence that it is an 'official site'. Note that the front page says 'This is the site of Palace On Wheels Inc., a travel company selling tours aboard Palace on Wheels in India'. There are lots of other such companies and websites, selling on commission for the high value product that a booking on this train is. Indian companies are limited (Ltd.) companies, not incorporated (Inc.). Imc 23:00, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was taking it as the 'official site' because that is where you arrive if you follow through from the official Indian Railways site (via Trains/Luxury Trains/Palace on Wheel Train(sic)). I agree, though, I don't know why it is Inc. And the site does have a detailed description and pictures of the train, which may be of interest despite the questionable English. Note the faint text at the base of palaceonwheels.net below the credit card logos - 'This is the site of a travel company selling tours aboard the luxury train in India'. Raildwar.com (an IR links collection) says that the official site is http:// www.palaceonwheelsindia.com/ which says 'THIS SITE IS UNDER UPDATION'. Imc
This was one of several related sites that have been spammed and are now blacklisted. --A. B. (talk) 22:39, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of travel agency links[edit]

I've been repeatedly removing single links added by various anon users. These include those users with IP 24.149.191.163 , 61.247.238.186 , and 67.188.42.56 . Most of their edits are for the addition of these websites; http://www.palaceonwheels.net/ and http://www.palacewheels.com/, with some claims that these are the 'official' website. I see no evidence that these are other than commercial agents seeking to use Wikipedia to drive traffic toward them. I invite them to provide such evidence here. Yet another variant, presumably again spammers, is http://www.palace-on-wheel.com - David Biddulph (talk) 06:15, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WP:INDIA Banner/Rajasthan workgroup Addition[edit]

Very bad article...indeed. The author has done a half-hearted job in writing this. No pictures, videos etc. It seems to me that author has no passion about bringing this information to the world. I wonder why author even bothered write anything…. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.43.62.83 (talk) 05:19, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment[edit]

I have re-assessed the article today for Wikiproject Trains. It previously had a "TOP" level importance, making it one of just 20 top level articles, out of more than 100,000 within the project's scope! Whilst the Palace on Wheels is doubtless very important to those promoting it, the Wikipedia assessment needs to be impartial. I have also re-assessed from B class to start class. At present the data is very limited, and there is considerable need for independent references and copy editing of the text, much of which appears to have been written by editors who do not have English as a first language - consequently there are multiple issues of grammar and syntax. This is a good start, but the article requires much more work, followed by independent assessment. Chris Golds (talk) 10:36, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for you work cleaning up this article, it appears a well meaning tourism professional has been here but may not be familiar with Wikipedia policies. I would agree with you wholeheartedly that the article does not merit "TOP" level importance- but that being said the palace on wheels is one of the most notable trains in the world. The train was a major venture by the Indian rail network and is one of the most luxurious trains on the Indian rail network and the source of a great deal of national pride for Indian nationals. I am not a rail expert, but I would generally agree with your a assessment. I just wanted to offer some reassurance that the individual train concerned is special and definitely notable. --William Forrester (talk) 07:20, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
