As far as I know, the claim that the paper in a paper popper breaks the sound barrier is a popular misconception. My understanding is that no part of the paper breaks the sound barrier, but rather there is blast wave resulting from air rushing to enter the vacuum created in the opening fold of paper. -- Cimon Avaro; on a pogostick. 00:32, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Honorable Mentions[edit]

Also, the bigger the popper's holes are, the louder the popper will be. From what I know, this is most likely because of more air being able to go through, causing a louder noise. Also, the loud popping can sound different in different areas, but I find that areas that echo a lot (ex. school bathroom) make the popper sound extremely loud to the point where it might cause a school lockdown.
