Is there a description of the paternal bond? If it refers to an emotional connection then bear in mind some fathers have no emotional connection with their child. Presumably there must be more to the concept than that merely there is a biological/social/legal relationship between the father and child. JPF 19:55, 10 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- That's what I'm hoping to explore with this article. The paternal bond, the way I see it, is a form of (family-style) love for a younger person. The description may be difficult to write exactly as it can include quite a wide scope of relationships, be them biological or not. - You've explicitly said that you'll do some original research to write this article, and the article seems already to be a combination of original material and conjecture. Wikipedia is not the place for original research. It could be that I'm wrong, and this article reflects existing research - if that's the case, then it needs to cite some sources. Fathers know & recognize their own off spring. I was named in a paternity case 27 years ago. I was unattached to the mother as she was engaged to someone else. Being a teen and she was in her mid twenties, I was cohersed and socially encouraged into giving up my rights to the child. It was very diffacult and life altering. Now years later after rasing 4 kids in my own marraige,I recently had a chance meeting to see the boy I had given up and I knew instantly he is from me. No words were spoken about the who what when or where. No arrangements were made to ensure anything about anything or who was who. Nature is always right. In all of created life in all the universe there is a balance all on its own and it will find its way law or no law, rules or no rules, social acceptance or social disgrace.
