Staff Check[edit]

I have added a section relating to Leahy's wife's directorship with Staff Check, a company that has recently been subject to media scrutiny due to commonwealth contracts that were awarded to the company; while Leahy remained in his position as Chief of the Army. As the allegations are cited with a reliable source (belonging to the business news website Michael West); the added section complies with Wikipedia's policy regarding biographies of living persons. Car photo[edit]

I've joined in the slow-moving edit war over the photo of the car used by the Chief of the Army. As it doesn't show Leahy and is (I assume) the car used by whoever the occupant of this position is, it doesn't have much relevance to the topic of the article. The car appears to be parked in the parking lot next to the Australian War Memorial and also appears to be empty. Nick Dowling (talk) 10:34, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not going to get twisted nickers over this, but I do object to some of the inaccuracies and non-sequiturs in various statements. The caption says: CA's car on ANZAC day 2008.

"it doesn't show Leahy" - Well no, Leahy is not visible in the photo. But what's your point? It's a picture of his car, not him.
"and is (I assume) the car used by whoever the occupant of this position is, it doesn't have much relevance to the topic of the article." - I don't follow the logic of this statement at all. Nor can I work out the point you're trying to make. As the caption says, the picture was taken 25 April 2008. Leahy was Chief of Army on that date. Therefore it was his car. How is that not relevant?
"The car appears to be parked in the parking lot next to the Australian War Memorial" - Assuming that you are correct, what would your point be?
"and also appears to be empty" - Again, what is your point?

OK, so it's a picture of an overpriced holden with mag wheels and low-profile tyres. So what? Well, as I've stated previously, it's got the "ARMY 1" registration plate, and a 3-star thingy on the front of it. Unless you spend a lot of time hanging around the front of R1, this is not a common sight. If you don't live in Canberra, I doubt that it's a sight you'd ever see. Also, who outside of Australia has seen a holden? I've seen heaps of photos of Cosgrove through a car window, but never was it apparent that he was sitting in a holden.

Yes, it could be a better photo, but as far as I'm aware, it's the only one available.

I really don't care whether you remove the photo or leave it there, but it is NOT without value, and NOT without relevance, and I object to spurious, irellevant and POV reasons for its removal.

I'm not too fussed about this either, but it seems unessessary to include a photo of the guy's car without him in it. The article on George W. Bush doesn't have a photo of Air Force One sitting on the tarmac and the articles on John Howard and Kevin Rudd don't have a photo of thier car. The photo belongs in the article on the Chief of Army, but it doesn't add much value to this article IMO given that it doesn't show either Leahy or the car doing anything in particular. Well, first comment is that it's the PM's car, not Howard's or Rudd's, so I guess this emphasises your point that it's CA's car, not Leahy's. So I guess that, somewhat reluctantly, I'm forced to admit that you're probably right.

Changing focus: Air Force One has its own page; the PM's limo has its own page. Maybe CDF/CN/CA/CAF/etc.'s limo should have a page? What do you think? Pdfpdf (talk) 12:32, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ugly page layout[edit]

It's very nice that Ajayvius added his ANZAC Day photos of Leahy and his car to the page, but it has made the page layout somewhat less attractive. Has anyone got any "attractive page layout" abilities? Pdfpdf (talk) 11:19, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
