a signal changes its phase by 2 pi multiplied its frequency. phase detector can be realised by sequencial as well as analog circuit by didode or cmos for high speed. normally a charge pump is required before filtering the dc ouput by low pass filter, a charge pump gives constant current output which is nothing but a three pole switch. many software is availave for pll simulation from which code loader is the modarate freeware from naional semiconductor.

[edit] Charge Pump
A charge pump isn't a phase detector by itself. This should be corrected in the article. --Necto 08:41, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Needs Work
Wow. The writing on this page is terrible - it's probably the worst wikipedia entry I've seen. Can we get a native english speaker o fix it? 123.243.237.83 (talk) 15:02, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've done work smoothing things over and sloshing material from Phase-locked loop. It is still rough and not well cited. --Kvng (talk) 04:35, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Removed link
I have removed the external link AD8343 High IP3 Active Mixer, because I don't think it's relevant to the article. The word phase isn't even mentioned in the referenced document. --HelgeStenstrom (talk) 11:43, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
[edit] Merge phase detector characteristic
It has been proposed (but not argued) to merge phase detector characteristic into this article. (Just creating heading) Glrx (talk) 02:00, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
