Species list[edit]
The species list for Phytosaurus should be updated to reflect that "Phytosaurus" doughtyi is recovered in a polytomy with other leptosuchomorphs in the cladistic analysis of Stocker (2010). Phytosaurus doughtyi is a new combination by Hay (1902) for the nomen dubium "Belodon" scolopax Cope 1881 (though Hay gave no justification for referring scolopax to Phytosaurus).
