This could get into POV debates and other such wars, but I'll start it nonetheless. Fingers crossed. Mike Church 06:03, 20 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Are you sure that this belongs in the Wikipedia? It seems more like a definition if anything, but certainly not an encyclopedia entry. GulDan 06:15, 20 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I agree with GulDan, this isn't much of an article and I dont really see much potential for it to become one. Right now it looks like it should be moved to wikitionary. --DA Roc 16:21, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Isn't being a player merely the samg thing as being a swinger? --SuperDude 19:21, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Players are normally people who use deception and tactics to have a women sexually, normally by giving them false hopes. They normally count the number of the opposite they have slept with. Often even telling them point blank after the event. "You're number 99." However, swingers are generally people who are just being sexually expressive with no deception - most swingers enjoy their acts with other swingers. Players "prey" on unsuspecting or ignorant victims.

I think this article is important because it is a stepping stone for a very important social event that is happening and will one day grow into a bigger article. I will help it now, but it's important to inform (mostly females) of this group of people ... because they operate maliciously sometimes. Bias: Friend of victim of a player. not everyone who has many sex partners is malicious. I love to have sex, and am honest about it with all involved. But people who get involved sometimes get hurt and blame me when it was by their choosing. So grow up ladies, don't try to change someone and get bent out of shape when you can't.

[edit] Support merge

I support merging this into womanizer. BD2412 T 23:13, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Womaniser

Agreed

[edit] Against Merge

I support Merging player into womanizer as recent slang, I reject Merging womanizer into player.Mrdthree 23:51, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Ok:

1: 'Player' and 'womanizer' are two different things, if nothing else because they emanate from different social contexts.
2: The article needs serious improvement.
3: Anybody who wants to vent their personal opinions on the subject, get a blog or a spot on Oprah. Eixo 18:34, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Tried to find the history of the term, but the best I could come up with was Urban Dictionary's 'The term was popularized by hip-hop culture, but was commonly recognized among urban American blacks by the 1970s.' I don't know how reliable this source is, but it seems just as good as any of the unreferenced stuff that's in the article right now. Eixo 19:01, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Also Against

Although the end result may be the same, the two words have different associations. Player is regarded in a positive way by the hip-hop culture, while womanizer is regarded in a negative way, generally by feminist parties. For this reason they should remain seperate and both be expanded with further references. 24.209.184.158 09:44, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Against The two terms are slightly different. Merging may create confusion. I suggest just keeping the reference to the other in each one.
