Background section[edit]

I think the background section, properly sourced, should be brought back as these cartoons are listed in the order they were released. This allows readers to read about Fleischer/Famous Studios during the time period that these cartoons were produced. Steelbeard1 (talk) 20:37, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't they read about such information on the relevant articles about those topics? This is an encyclopedia article, not a DVD review, which is exactly what the "background" section reads like (sourcing won't save the biased writing and lack of encyclopedic tone). A perusal of other (well-written) articles on DVD releases should show that there is no need for this. There's already an article on Popeye, and already an article on Fleischer Studios. Any further detail would be better placed in articles on individual films (but not all of them), not here. --FuriousFreddy (talk) 00:15, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One possible solution (and one I'm slowly trying to implement at Our Gang filmography) is to expand the filmography and add any particular notes, similar to the episode guides for TV shows. The lists of Fleischer and Famous Popeyes are missing release dates and other notes (I might be inclined to add animators' names for at least the Fleischer shorts, considering the unique situation of Fleischer film credits, and who actually was the "director" on those cartoons). This could alleviate, at least temporarily, the need to create articles for individual series entries (and avoid a problem as large as the one the individual articles on Our Gang shorts has become). There is nothing wrong with providing information about how and why cartoons were produced, etc.; it just needs to be in the right place and in the right tone. --FuriousFreddy (talk) 00:20, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
