Hello, could a Wikipedia administrator or Wikipedia participant, with knowledge of correcting the name of this article page please do so.

This article was created recently on 15 October 2012 with the incorrect spelling of the name of the unincorporated community of Redtop in Aitkin County, Minnesota.

I verified with the official GNIS Information System / U.S. Geological Survey.

The correct spelling is Redtop.

GNIS ID : 649898

GNIS Data Entry Date : 11-Jan-1980

The correct coordinates for this article should be : Latitude(DMS) 461034N Longitude(DMS) 932351W

Three other GNIS entries for this location include :

  • Redtop Post Office (historical) - GNIS ID : 2070923 GNIS Data Entry Date : 27-Jun-2005

The post office operated in Redtop from 04/08/1909 until 03/15/1954

  • Redtop Cemetery - GNIS ID : 649899 GNIS Data Entry Date : 11-Jan-1980
  • Redtop (historical) - GNIS ID : 2070922 GNIS Data Entry Date : 27-Jun-2005 (this one was for the railroad station)

The Official State of Minnesota Highway Map, a publication from Mn/DOT (Minnesota Department of Transportation), shows the spelling as Redtop on the 2011/2012 edition of their official map.

The official county map of Aitkin County, also a publication from Mn/DOT, contradicts this spelling however, showing the spelling instead as Red Top on Sheet 1 map of Aitkin County, 2012 edition.

If you look at the original 1908 plot jpg image attached to the article, it is spelled as Redtop.

If you look at the images from the website www.rootsweb.ancestry.com, you will see old photographs and post cards from earlier generations of this community using the spelling as Redtop.

There is another contradiction with the All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Trail that passes through the community. This is named the Red Top ATV Trail, by the Minnesota DNR (Department of Natural Resources). When this ATV trail was established in recent decades, my guess is they used the spelling as Red Top instead of the original spelling of the unincorporated community of Redtop that was used in 1908. I believe local residents of the unincorporated community in recent years started using the ATV Trail spelling in the same format for their 1908 established community. I think that is where the name spelling confusion began with the younger generations.

I do realize there is a published book with information relating to this community. However, I believe the book : "Track and Timber: the History of Red Top, Minnesota" , published in 1991 by Robert A. Wollum Sr. and written by Gerald A. Wollum ; artwork by Steve Maus. I believe the author didn't verify in 1991 the correct spelling of the community name, the author didn't verify with the GNIS Information System / U.S. Geological Survey listing for Redtop, MN –- and the author did not verify with the Official State of Minnesota map at that time either in 1991. The information from Track and Timber is the closest thing to accurate as a person can get. Much of the information came from the stories and histories of previous residents and their children. Many of the details may seem as though they're from personal prospective as these are from personal histories. Very little recorded information remains from this time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erikleorga (talkcontribs) 23:43, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the History section of the article needs to be cleaned up.

I know that all I am speaking of here is making a simple article name change correction – from Red Top to Redtop. However, I can not add a infobox / map for this article, until this is corrected. It wouldn't match the official listing of this unincorporated community on the GNIS Information System / U.S. Geological Survey –– and therefore can not qualify for a infobox / map under Wikipedia article criteria guidelines until this correction takes place.

Thank you.
