Could some help me word the replicators attack better? thanks

I think someone should put a reference to grey goo, and a reference to the replicators in the grey goo article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.193.121.185 (talk) 22:14, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Seperate Article for Human Form replicators[edit]

That is a major plot component, and this should just be general information. This needs simplified, simplification of human form replicators could do that. Kashami 20:33, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

confusing or unclear?[edit]

The article claims it is confusing or unclear, but I've read the entire article, and found nothing confusing or unclear. This tag has been added a long time ago, and many small readability fixes have been made since. Also, there isn't a clear statement in the talk page why this this page is unclear, so I suggest deleting the tag. Cristan 20:45, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

No response yet. I'm removing the tag. Cristan 16:18, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Relative technology[edit]

I stated that the Replicators are possibly less advanced then the Alterians simply because we don't really have any indicators one way or the other. From what we've seen, you could easily argue that the general technology level of the Replicators matches or excedes the Ancients own technology in many areas.

I disagree, RepliCarter herself stated that the Dakara superweapon was the only technology capable of destroying her and her bretheren, indicating that it is at least equal to her own technology, and there are many situations where the Replicators were unable to surpass problems that the Ancients dealt with (Time travel, gravity, etc.) JBK405 18:45, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

The Death Star in Star Wars is, without a doubt, more advanced than some random X-Wing, yet an X-Wing was what took the first Death Star down. This is due to a fundamental flaw in the Death Stars design - not to inferior technology. Similarily, the Dakara superweapon could very easily just be exploiting a fundamental flaw in the Replicators design, without, itself, being more advanced than the Replicators.
As for the replicators not doing time travel... maybe the replicators had that technology but simply chose not to use it for the same reason the Ancients did.
I'm not really sure what you're refering to when you mention gravity... TerraFrost 00:05, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Its stupid to argue that one relative piece of technology over another shows that one side is clearly far superior. All that can really be said about the Replicators is that their technology is generally comparable to that of the high end races such as the Asgard, Ancients, Ori e.t.c They have shown in many areas technology far superior to that of any other race while inferior in other ways. Just because the Dakara device could kill them (though I should note Carter was very confident that they would evolve and adapt to become immune after just one use of it against them!) doesn't automatically say they are inferior to the Ancients. Indeed Replicator was confident it was the ONLY piece of Ancient technology that could harm them at all! Not exactly encouraging to say the Ancients would be any kind of threat to the Replicators.

I think we should just say they are in roughly the same class that you can place races like the Asgard, Ori, Ancients and so on. -C O'Farrell

Merge[edit]

I merged the articles per the other talk page. It still needs a bit of cleaning up and probably some formating changes. Morphh 02:17, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Origins in Asgard Galaxy[edit]

I'm pretty sure it's mentioned in the Reese episode that an Asgard ship was studying her planet and took the little buggers home with them for further research, thus explaining their origin in Asgard space. Swiftbow 04:27, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

It was mentioned in "Nemesis" that the Asgard discovered Replicators on a planet in their home galaxy, so it remains a mystery how or why the Replicators migrated from the Milky Way to the Ida Galaxy. Maartentje 02:35, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Possible Inspirations[edit]

A machine, a robot, a vehicle or a spaceship that has the ability to self-replicate is often dubbed a Von Neumann probe. It was also called an universal assembler by Von Neumann. Hugo Dufort 22:47, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

The concept of replicating machines or robots, spreading across galaxies (some kind of a "robotic panspermia"), can be traced back to authors such as Gregory Benford (the Galactic Center Saga) and Fred Saberhagen (the Berserker series). Hugo Dufort 22:47, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Replicators can be seen as a macroscopic kind of grey goo, since they methodically consume all resources on a planet while replicating. Hugo Dufort 22:47, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

All three of them were already mentioned in the "See also" section... Maartentje 07:09, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Well as you might have saw in the episode that Samantha Carter was abducted, the Replicators built a ship out of there own blocks and flew away. you can also see when Thor was collapsing the sun into a black hole to get rid of the four legged creeps on the Asgards' old home planet that a planet filled with Replicator blocks was a big super ship. However I do admit that at these buggers had the help of Toys R Us Reese to have Super Replicators. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.111.119.152 (talk) 23:47, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Replicarter-traps-daniel.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Image:Replicarter-traps-daniel.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:53, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Origins & Other info[edit]

Has it ever been revealed why they are insect shaped? And have they ever been seen attacking a human on screen? I never got the impression they were much of a personal threat to anyone. --72.202.150.92 13:48, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

'Original' vs. Asuran-replicators[edit]

Do we have any material on the relation between both incarnations? In the Atlantis episode where the Asurans were first introduced, they used the painful streched-hand-in-forehead mindmeld trick, exactly like the SG-1 human-form replicators used to do (the "Oh noes, it's the replicators!" moment). I always thought this was a little bit much of a coincidence when it was suggested in the show that both races develloped independently.145.97.197.100 19:28, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Minor Change[edit]

I removed the word nuclear from the phrase "Russian nuclear submarine" in the first paragraph of the technology section. The submarine in question was a Foxtrot-class attack submarine. The Foxtrot is an older class of diesel-electric (as opposed to nuclear) submarine.

mind probe[edit]

in this article it says that a human form replicator can probe a persons mind but it doesnt say if the person would survive that81.108.233.59 16:17, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

It should be assumed that you would survive if it is not stated that you do not. In an article about bananas it says that you can eat them, should we then qualify that with "and you will not die"? Konman72 18:18, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

i see your point, thanks81.108.233.59 11:11, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

small fix[edit]

The article mentions the possibility of the Replicators assimilating other technology before they met the Asgard. I seem to recall an episode where Thor mentions they themselves created this threat. They were studying the basic replicators in our galaxy (which was the plot of another episode), and they got loose onboard and started assimilating their tech. This seems to suggest pretty strongly that they were on the planet where they were created until the Asgard beamed them up and they got loose. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.61.103.49 (talk) 09:14, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

vulnerability[edit]

wouldn't a MRI taser, EMP or van degraf generator destroy them —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.108.120.155 (talk) 05:57, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Probably not, they are supposed to be able to absorb energy. Anyway, the talk page isn't for discussions like this but for improving the article itself.Dalek9 (talk) 14:26, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Merger of Replicator characters in Stargate[edit]

See also: Talk:Miscellaneous_alien_characters_in_Stargate#Merger_of_Replicator_characters_in_Stargate

Only Fifth and RepliCarter (and maybe First) are really important Replicators, so I'd like to merge them into Miscellaneous alien characters in Stargate. I'd trim&merge information about the other characters here. This merge request is mainly inspired by WP:FICT, but may be controversial so I'm asking others for input before I go ahead. – sgeureka t•c 14:32, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Replicator Forms[edit]

I was looking for "replicator techonology", or in case of the replicators being all technology anyway, different form of replicators. Besides the Bug-Form, there are several more: I remember a queen, a small ship, some kind of hyperdrive-enhancement-device and a bigger ship. (And I'm not through watching all episodes :-) ) I think this would be an interesting point in the article, but since I am not through, I could only deliver partial information. So if one of you has a list, or even some pictures, an edit would be much appreciated 80.218.243.187 (talk) 18:17, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
